Still weird.

Re: The Cranberries tone
Too much vibration they can turn themselves on and off. They also wear out fairly easy. I used to rock a few, and sometimes it took a couple clicks to turn them on, even pedals that didn't see a lot of heavy use.Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:12 pmHow so, just not as durable? They look similar to boss style.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 6:10 pmAlso the switches are trash.ElephantDNA wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:32 pmThat whole series of DOD pedals actually had a lot of gems. Re: The Cranberries tone
I just love this thread so, so much! There's always time to look for that obscure, vintage chorus sound.
The Stephen Street interview is so revealing! That early cranberries tone is terribly underrated, IMHO. It is a bit like Marr's but in an economic and effective, shoegazey style.
Now that I know the chorus tone is a DOD, I can't stop listening to it all over Linger and Dreams! I also think the CE-1 was used more like a vibrato than a Chorus, the lushness is just different. DOD made some amazing stuff, I think they're not as hyped as other brands because they just look so, so dated. The color/layout/font/switch and overall design has not aged as well as the classic Boss or MXR's casing. It's a pity, there are some terrific designs waiting to be discovered there.
I'm a massive fan of chorus, an old japanese CE-2 is usually my favorite, but for these kind of tones it's just too much. I've had them all, loved some (DOD FX60, Small Clone, RetroSonic CE-1) and hated others (Julia, MXR blue modern one, Blue Hippo) but I've settled on a surprising and very cheap option for the classic analog sound, very much like my CE-2, but with a bit more control and range: the Twinote BBD chorus.
I got it new for less than 20 bucks (yes!) and I'm loving it. It actually does my CE-2, but cleaner! Not expecting this from a cheap clone, but it really nails the subtle chorus thing the cranberries were known for.

Yeah, it’s a dreamy sound for sure. With the discovery of that article, I had to find this old thread to revive it. Currently, going back to emulating this sound again by plotting my way to a vox amp again.Paco wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 8:01 amI just love this thread so, so much!
