I found what I'going to be when I grow old.. I'll be a Mad Scientist..

I wanna be Zachary Vex.  :D

Well.. maybe not tomorrow but... maybe one day.  ::)

More seriously, it's been on my mind for a while now: I'd like to modify and make pedals, Circuit bending of every kind of other stuff that make noise is also an option .

I've been reading quite a lot on the subject lately but I'm still a little lost concerning where I should begin..  ???

Several options comes to my mind (in addition to reading on the subject and try to figure out how it works..because yes, I'd like to understand what I do at the end):
- Building a new true bypass looper
- Building a little sag or battery starving box which I could use with any pedal (found a schematic on devi ever website)
- Buying a cheap second hand pedal and try to modify it to death
- Buying a BYOC kit and build it... but which one ? A fuzz ?
- try to make a clone of a simple existing design myself (SHO ?)
:-[ :-[ :-[

Also any tip (on how to/tools/part suppliers), book on the subject or anything that will avoid my to make noob mistakes will be very welcome..  :)

Yeah I thought about that once. That would be cool to be his son :)

"Dad, want to build me a new pedal?" haha

Building a Super Duper clone (Cloner Donor?) would be a good place to start, since it's pretty-much just two SHOs in series. That way if you mess one up you've still got a SHO! They're really easy to make on strip-board and cheap as chips too, and I'm pretty sure you'll love the noise. If you want to email me I can sort you out with the full schematic and the parts list.

The other pedals I've enjoyed making are clean boosts with a fuzz after them. Like the Super Duper they are just two really simple, very similar circuits in series and you then get the four options of nothing, clean boost, mild fuzz and crazy boosted fuzz. Again I can send you schematics and parts lists if you need them.

As a guitar player, I'd be interested in the Fuzz + Boost. I found a bunch a mods for fuzz that I'd like to try, just to hear the results.

in a SHO clone, I could put it in a real small box, probably with a trim pot in order to use it before my DBA Interstellar Supreme OD which I find a little dark. I'd use this SHO in fairly low boost, just for the added sparkle.

I have a probably very naive question:
On this layout, what are the red dots ?
Are they separations ?
I assume that each components soldered on the same stripe are connected together (tell me if I'm wrong) and the red dots act as signal stopper, cutting the path on the stripe.. Am I right ?

Also, what is used to make those "red dots" ??

Yeah - those are breaks in the tracks - just use a 4-5mm drill bit between your fingers to take out a circle of copper then square it off with a sharp knife.

Oh! Thats what I want to be when I'm old too!!
And maybe I'm close!
I've designed two fuzzpedals from zero..now I'm waiting some cash to start building the first prototipes!!

Copying other's works becames a bit boring after a while..
Architecture students are like virgins with an itch they cannot scratch,  never build a building 'till are fifty, what kind of life is that?
