Score! DOD Phasor 490

Post by flatfiver » Wed Oct 25, 2006 9:05 pm

Just grabbed this old guy from work for CHEEEEP.  Pretty funky - I think it's a 4-stage phaser like a Phase 90, but it's got speed & regeneration knobs on it (no depth control).  It's real swirly - I can almost get a flanger sound out of it.  Anyone familiar with these?

It looks like this:

DOD made several phaser models...i've seen the 595 which was a six stage phaser. the 490 was an earlier model, so it probably is a four stage, but i don't know much else about it...of course 490 might be a clue...4 stage-phase 90?

so far I've found that the earliest DOD phasers were the Phasor 201 (& 201B), Phasor 401, & Phasor 490.  The 201 seems to have been comparable to the MXR Phase 45 and the 401 similar to the Phase 90.  It looks like the 490 added a regen control to the 401 maybe?  I don't know - I haven't really found any information on it.  Oh well...
