Really? I was just thinking a blendable RAT/Big Muff would be one of the coolest pedals in existence.

I tried running my Rat and my Peachfuzz together, and I wasn't too into it, but mostly because it didn't seem to do much other than make my signal louder. Mind you, though, I run my Rat with the distortion dimed, so the Rat basically just over-powers any other pedal I try to stack it with. I can get a nice, useable boost for solos by running a Tube Screamer in front of it, but the Rat still seems to take over tonal qualities with it set the way I like it, so I could probably get the same effect by just running the Rat into a transparent boost, like a SHO or something similar.

I could see a Rat and a Big Muff working with the Rat set for more mild crunch-tones, but like I said earlier, I don't like the Rat's lighter settings. I find running the distortion around 3 o'clock and then turning my guitar's volume down to about 3 produces a way more usable light overdive sound than setting the pedal itself for those sounds with my guitar's volume at a normal output. But it's still not as useful in those kinds of situations as something like a Tube Screamer would be.

my turbo rat sounds great by itself, but does not play well with fuzz. it does ok with a tiny bit of OD running into it, if you have the gain at half on the rat. if i have to play in a band with another guitarist, it is my go-to distortion box.

I use them together with the Rat set for milder distortion (exactly as you describe). They sort of complement each other that way, which works quite fine, especially with my Zombie Klone there to make things more interesting and add some boost. Anyway, I think that using them separately for specific situations might give better results: I sometimes feel that the Muff doesn't have enough presence when used next to the Rat.

Of course, all this is done with the Muff going into the Rat. The other option may be better for bad dirty jokes, but I didn't like it much. It was a noisefest, in a bad way. I guess I should keep trying other combinations, I started building my pedalboard not too long ago and there's still much to learn.

I've installed LM308AN chip... Sound is definitely improved, a much nicer pedal IMO. However, I almost completely destroyed Filter pot in the process... Does anyone know where can I find pots I can use with a Rat? They are a bit different thand standard ones (a bit taller), 100K I believe...

edit: nevermind, I've fixed it. The chip I recieved in the mail is actually lm308an, don't know if it's any different than lm308n. Maybe if I had a nice tube amp it would make less of a difference, but on my SS little Vox Pathfinder 15R, the difference is huge IMO. MUCH warmer overdriven tones, Filter knob is 100x more usable and has more range/depth, high gain settings aren't as harsh, in fact nothing is so brittle/harsh as it used to be. The chords are well defined as well, I can hear all of the strings ring separately. The only thing I miss is that the old chip had much more high-gain compression which I think is very usable for soloing on a Jag. All in all, this is the pedal that I wanted to have all this time. :)

These will become the "Late-Batch Neg-Input WFRI" ultra-collectible Rats of the future. Super-rare. Vintage ones are gonna be all the rage in 2022. We'll make a fortune on eBay and can sell 'em to fund the limited "Vintage 'Vintage Rat Reissue' Reissue" we'll all be freaking out about.

I just picked up another Rat so now I have 3...I guess I collect them now? I have an 86 smallbox, a 92 smallbox and a newer opamp07 one from 2011 or so.
The 92 is a bit brighter than the 86, the 86 has that RAT magic shit everyone talks about. I don't know how to explain it aside of the values on the pots must be within some range that just sings for me.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I should have picked up five of those WF reissues for $99 or whatever they were blowing them out for when I had the chance. :'(

I LOVE a silicon fuzz face as a powerhouse roar, but I'm back to using a Rat (1988 small box Rat 2) as a lighter fuzz pedal.
Distortion ~9:30, filter ~1:30, volume ~1:30.

So very Stooges.

My Biyang Mouse went missing in a move so I bought an Earthbound Iron Pig as a replacement - found the Mouse hiding in a box of old photos so now I can have gentle Rat and doom Rat together.
