Latest updates from the land of effects loops and junction boxes.

Image9lr5wzoj74da1 by Steve Bailey, on Flickr

Quite a few changes since the last time I posted here. Updated to a slightly larger pedal board to accommodate the junction box. Signal flow is now as follows:

Victory RK50 Head into a Mojotone Lite 1x12 with Celestion Creamback
1983 Yamaha SBG1000 with Dimarzio Unpotted PAFs
EB Volume/Tuner -> MXR Phase 95 -> Retrosonic Flanger -> Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion -> Junction Box into Front of Amp
Effects Loops: Boss GE-7 -> Source Audio Nemesis w/External Preset Footswitch -> Neunaber Immerse

The Boss DS-2 is a new acquisition and a pleasant surprise. Months of frustratedly trying to push my dark, mid-heavy amp with screamer-types was not giving me the cutting-yet-fuzzy lead sound I wanted. The DS-2 came to mind after watching some live sessions with Weezer where Rivers used one to push his old Diesel amp. Shockingly, seems to be doing the trick with my Victory just fine. Huzzah!
The DS models sound pretty darn great at low gain & stacked. It’s just when you wanna go full Nirvana, it also takes some big power amp work, great mics/positioning and some of the best audio mixing talent to make it work.

Handy reminder that I need a 3-way junction box to play with effects loop, not 2-way! Really struggling with reverb & delay pre-drive atm. Using them a lot more for ambient sounds and having to switch the settings between rat/muff on the board & amp drive is annoying. Worth adding more cables & confusion, apparently.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

It's been an entirely worthwhile upgrade for me so far and truly if you set it up right it's not much more work or gear than a regular straight in rig.

Having a Pedal Python to group the inbound cables makes it no more time consuming to set up, and mixing between straight in and loop so far has been giving me the best of both worlds. Highly recommend.

Had a few changes recently, got rid of a couple of things and added a BF-2 after reading about them on here and watching a few demos on youtube. Never owned a flanger before but its a fun pedal, on some settings it makes any simple single note lines sound like the Cure, which I guess is either a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. I like the chorus sounds you can get out of it too.

Excuse the cable mess, really should tidy that when I put mics away :fp:

Might change the OCD for another modulation soon (chorus or Reverse Delay) and dirty up the amp a bit.

Also have a small Boss board at home. Boss Rules!

It worries me that you require such specific and deliberate secure fixings.

:D

It’s a holeyboard. Back in the day, they advertised the board made for tie-wrap and for not needing velcro. Its a false good idea since I change my pedals way too often.
