Talk about the Fender Jazzmaster, Jaguar, and any other offset waist guitars with us!

I had one for a bit and was pretty meh on it. It wasn't an incredible Reverb or Delay, it just kinda did both fine.sal paradise wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 3:48 amHow is the caverns? I listed after that for a good while
I got it because I had space and power supply constraints, and in the delay and reverb in one pedal category it stood out for being small and geared towards general use rather than achieved something shoegazey. It fills this space really well. None of the sounds are exceptional, but they were certainly more than good enough for my bedroom noodling. Using it today my main gripe was the lack of tap tempo for delay time - I recently got a lucky cat and adjusting to using the tap has made me enjoy delay an awful lot more. I had the most fun getting the delay to go infinite and then using the shimmer verb to add a huge wall of extra texture - it’s a way better shimmer than my digitech Polara has.sal paradise wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 3:48 amHow is the caverns? I have a decent reverb already, which is why I didn’t bother in the end. I got a lucky cat, too! Really, really like it. Boss DD3 with simpler controls & a tap button. Perfect for me.F15hface wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 12:14 pmI got it because I had space and power supply constraints, and in the delay and reverb in one pedal category it stood out for being small and geared towards general use rather than achieved something shoegazey. If you don’t want tap tempo I definitely think it’s worth a look, just doesn’t quite work for me anymore.
I like that!
I want to say Pat Smear. Just because the answer to everything should be Pat Smear.MrShake wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:01 amSo, there's a guitarist I've always loved, been getting into some of my formative classics. I don't wanna just steal his sound, but I like the idea of cracking the code, of reverse-engineering a comparable recipe and having some of that for my own. Once I got the pedal order right, within 5 minutes, something real close came flowing out of my hands. Must be 20 years of ripping off their style, if not their tone.
Guitar is a bolt-on Epiphone from 1990 with the hottest, cheapest pickups I've got. The amp is either a clean Fender or straight in to something clean and solid state for a tight bottom end.
Any guesses as to who I spent the morning mimicking?
Okay, so you say Pat Smear, and I think "The Germs". Because I love The Germs, but I'm 40, and he was WAY more visible as a part of the Foo Fighters through my teen years.sal paradise wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:28 amI want to say Pat Smear. Just because the answer to everything should be Pat Smear.
I think they sound really good for Surf, I like to use them with just a little bit of breakup from the amp. It could use a little more treble when using a Mosrite but with a Jaguar I think it's pretty spot on, at least for the more aggressive end of Surf.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:07 amI like that!
How surfy can Orange amps be?
Somehow I only connect them to Doom and hardcore sounds.
I have no idea, sorry! Who is it?MrShake wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 11:01 amOkay, so you say Pat Smear, and I think "The Germs". So, The Germs, no. Foo Fighters, no... but way closer.
Here's another hint. This was that thing that came out of my fingers. I plugged the board in, set things where I THOUGHT they should go, plugged in, and this song came out, verse and chorus just... there. I strummed it out once into my phone to capture the chords. Then I opened my laptop and plugged the board into that setup. Opened GarageBand, found an adequate drum loop and, well, looped it.
Then I hit record and played and this was that first take. So, literally, the... third time I'd played that verse/chorus combo? I didn't even know what to do when the bridge came around.
Laid a bass line over it for some "vibe" and here we are - the musical equivalent of a scribble on a napkin. I normally wouldn't put it up for the whole wide world to savage, but maybe somebody will get a laugh and pick up the clue.
Guess My Tone! (MediaFire link)
Of course, if nobody does, I'll be crushed in my pursuit of exactly replicating somebody else's tone, exactly and perfectly, like we're all supposed to be doing, right?
Oh, wait, I forgot which forum I was on
