It's annoying to need to replace one transistor if you don't have them on hand already. You either find yourself buying way more than you need, or paying $10 in shipping costs for a $0.20 part, or contriving a bunch of other stuff to buy to make the shipping worth it.
Indeed. I have similar ones in the parts box but I have found somewhere who's shipping me a pair for about £2 which is still annoying for such a cheap component but not worth getting angry about

Especially since £2 isn’t worth all that much these days!

HAH! Don't, it's a fucking shitshow over here. I'm fortunate enough that, if it gets bad, the worst I'll have to do is sell a couple of guitars and ride the storm...but there's people literally starving and freezing here thanks to our governments utter incompetence and open disdain.

Johnny, I'm disappointed FOR you.

Still rooting for you. This is super valuable info to start collecting.

You're in the Rat Restoration Vanguard.

Fortunately it's not been a particularly challenging thing yet, just swapping out components. If the transistor swap doesn't do it then I might do the switch again and get a more traditional Carling DPDT type in there...the 3PDT I used was one I had lying around (of unknown make/origin) and was previously used on another project sometime in the past as I had to clean up and desolder the terminals. So it wasn't brand-spankin' new - which is a variable I guess. Also, it is a particularly 'clicky' switch compared to the old originals (so maybe the switch 'bounce' is at play here too).

I'll work it out, it'll be something in there. It's not exactly a complicated circuit.

I'll be watching this, I thought my rat was having issues but it actually wound up being the plug I was running my amp/pedals through being connected to a circuit in my neighbors apt. Once I sorted that out the issue is moot. I have replaced some pedal stuff but my hands are shaky AF nowadays.

Small update:

Replaced switch with a brand-spanking new one, an as-close-as-possible-to-period correct Carling 316-PP. Pop reduced, but still present.

Off topic: my old Vox was mostly Marshall replacement parts by the time I sold it to buy a 1993 Korg AC-30, but it still looked like a vintage amp on stage.

When do we start replacing old non-working pedal circuits with new ones? Take a Wren & Cuff Big Muff and wire it into your 1973 EHx enclosure?

Plenty of old guitars have newer pickups and wiring. Even bridge, neck and tremolo replacement.

I know there are some Fuzz Face and Cry Baby Wahs that have had surgery. Does it become a boutique industry?

Theseus' Rat. A fair point. That's gonna be a whole can of worms in 15-20 years.
