NPD: My First DOD Pedal... Again.

Post by MrShake » Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:37 am

I don't sell a lot of gear, I tend to not buy unless I'm pretty sure. About ten years ago, I sold my first flanger, a DOD FX75C. I moved on to a BF-2 and an 18V Electric Mistress, which, as I got more and more into flanging, left me missing the DOD.

So, I finally got around to buying one back. It's was pretty beat, but a once-over with a new input jack retaining nut and some Deoxit had it working great, and then I wiped all the sticky crap off with lighter fluid. And then it sounded great.

It's really pretty nice. Haven't had much time to mess around with it, but it's subtler than I remember, making some really nice chorus/flange blends, but it can still get a little weird at higher settings. Since I tend to live in that subtler area for flange, it's excellent for my purposes, and was funny how after 10-12 years, it was like a sense memory hearing it sweep.

My only beef is that the screws for the bottom plate were replaced with a few too-long replacements, so they don't screw in all the way.

I guess that, the jack floating around in there, the gunked pots, and the sticky crap all over it was why I got it for $25 less than all the others online. Just glad I know some basic triage.

DODs are fun. I have a few but they don't reside on my gig board. Off the top of my head I have a Vibro Thang that emulates a Leslie. I need to hook it up to two amps and see what it sounds like.
