Re: What is the OSG modulation family of choice?
I mostly use phaser and trem. Phaser definitely wins out s my most used though. I use it alot on my clean tone. I use both in fairly subtle ways, to draw the ear to an otherwise sparse, or slow part.
I use ring-mod quite a bit as well, but it is anything but subtle. Mostly on noisey, distorted leads. I’ve also taken to using in my recordings alot on layered texture tracks. The type of thing you don’t notice until it’s taken away.
I was a chorus boi as a teenager. But now I can’t stand it. I hate the way it feels under your fingers. If I’m looking for that sort of movement, I’ll use a modulated delay, like a Memory Man.

I picked trem because I use it the most.
Next is the detune in a pitch shifter. I prefer the non-moving thing to chorus.
I’ve owned lots of great choruses, and usually prefer a flanger. Phase always gets a bit cheesy for me. I have used envelope filters for years as a secret sauce with some delay added, but never really considered them modulation.

chorus and phaser here. Wasn't until recently that I really fell in love with chorus

Mostly use trem and a tiny bit of flanger but ive got a lot of love for phasers, its just that the person I play with uses a phase 90 and if we both used one I'd end up feeling a bit sick
Id love to love chorus but I've been through most of the usual suspects with no luck. Got a sea machine clone at the moment that i kind of like for shimmery wobble but I'm not totally convinced.

The 80's sound ruined both chorus and strat "quack" positions for me. I can't play either without cringing. With their powers combined, all I hear is "shitty wedding band" regardless of what's being played.

I voted phaser before realising you could vote for more than one option , in which case I’d have voted for tremolo as well. But if I had to choose only one it’d be phaser. I love a nice long subtle sweep, a fast rate for wobbly sci fi craziness, deep swooshes, the lot. I currently own a script MXR phase 90, a zvex vibrophase and an EQD Grand Orbiter and love them all. I also used to have a boss ph-3 and an old big box EHX small stone, both of which I miss.
My phaser dream is to one day own an old vintage EHX polyphase.
For tremolo I have EHX super pulsar which is great for finding all kinds of variations but I mainly use the zvex sonar. Because it’s zvex and it sounds amazing and it looks super f-ing cool.

For me, it’s vibrato. More specifically, random vibrato. I have a Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water and it’s a strangely magical box. I get lost in it sometimes.

Re: What is the OSG modulation family of choice?
I second the modulated delay. Its the only modulation i've got really, is one that's melded into delays...and reverbs
I suppose the right tasteful choruses too come out of it, and i love some of them like the dimension or very synthy 'LFO effect' ones in stereo that have the option of getting quite a fast rate selection.
I like phaser and trem, but either its such a sparse use for a heavy amount of it going choppy and swirly (maybe both at once), or its like the 'staple' trem that you find on every amp that is so staple it forms the tone rather than such a pronounced obvious effect.

Re: What is the OSG modulation family of choice?
The boss CE-2W was the first pedal I bought when I started getting serious about guitar and found out there was more to people's tone than dirt. Its pretty much the only pedal I've never thought about replacing. I eventually picked up a BF-3 which I love but is a little bit noisy, and a VB-2W which I love especially after a fuzz but can't seem to quite make it gel with my setup the same way the CE-2 does
