Blackface Bassman in a box?
So, I'm trying to work out the logistics of the next (at least) year of my life relying on public transport and/or cycling places. The cornerstone of my current guitar sound with the band is my BF Bassman on the edge of breakup, being fed a Rat for the louder bits
Is there any good equivalent pedals or small modellers etc that I could, theoretically, throw into a backpack or attach to a board (preferably powered, but not essential) that emulate the sound well? Something like the Milkman 'The Amp' but Bassman flavoured.
Loads of Tweed Bassman stuff around thanks to all the blues lawyers, but my Google-Fu seems to be weak in finding BF versions.

Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Only thing that came to mind was that Boss Deluxe Reverb pedal, but I guess that's not what you're after. This sounds like a job for your pal Frederick - could be a lucrative addition to his range.

The new Universal Audio pedal is a Blackface in a box...

Yeah, I was looking at the UA ones. The Bassman is very different to all the other Blackface amps though, they sound like an American Plexi more than the usual Deluxe/Princeton/Twin/etc.
There's loads of people aping the classic Fender clean BF and Tweed sound, but not the unusual AB165 circuit. Unfortunately

I am going to go check both the UA and the AMT F1 out again. I'll be honest, I'm probably being too fussy, I basically play punk/grunge so it's not exactly a particularly particular sound I require

The Walrus Audio ACS-1 has a pretty stellar black panel fender setting. I've been using it on my pedal board after mod pedals and pre delay and reverb, then into an ART tube preamp before it hits my audio interface. I'd like to fettle with some different IRs to better emulate my live setup, but damn if it doesn't sound good out of the box.

This may be the very essence of internet Chinese Whispers, but I distinctly remember my Mesa-loving mate telling me the circuit for his preferred one (mk. 4, I think?) is based on a Bassman. Could be a bum steer, but I'm pretty sure Joyo do a cheap Mesa-in-a-box which wouldn't break the bank to try. Could be called 'California Sound'....johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 12:29 amThe Bassman is very different to all the other Blackface amps

Joyo American Sound. Apparently, these are based on the Tech 21 Blonde pedal, and they can get you tones across the spectrum of tweed to blackface. Plus, you should be able to pick one up for $40 or less. I’m very happy with mine.

Yeah this is the point that seems to be getting missed - I don't think an off the shelf device exists.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 12:29 amYeah, I was looking at the UA ones. You might have better luck pairing one of the classic "BF flavoured" boxes with an EQ to replace some of the mids that inevitably will have been sucked out.

Isn’t the Bassman a JTM45 circuit? If so, what about a Strymon Iridium with a York Audio IR? Something on the menu should get you awfully close to the tone in your head.

Origin recently released two bass amp pedals, one of which is a BF Bassman: https://origineffects.com/product/bassr ... ack-panel/
It might be overkill for you, but their work seems too-notch and it could play other roles in your musical life.

Nice! That has the added benefit of a built-in XLR out, great for direct applications.infiniteposse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:42 amOrigin recently released two bass amp pedals, one of which is a BF Bassman: https://origineffects.com/product/bassr ... ack-panel/
