Modding a vintage MXR Phase 100
Hey!
Just picked up an old 80's block logo MXR Phase 100 and it sounds great! A few issues though:
I'd like it to be true bypass
I'd like to add an LED to tell me when its engaged
I'd like to add a 9v adaptor input so I don't need to run it from batteries.
I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, but I just don't know what to solder where! I tried googling but no luck. Can anyone lend me a hand or help me find a wiring diagram I can understand?!

Please don't mod a cool old pedal like this. All your problems can be solved with some bits of kit:
Truetone TT-CBAT 1 Spot Battery Clip Converter
And a bypass loopers such as this:

Re: Modding a vintage MXR Phase 100
Well, I appreciate the idea of keeping things original, but I don't have space on my pedal board to have this pedal and a bypass looper, and I also am just of a different mindset. I don't think any gear is too holy to be modified. Plus it's not like I'm ripping out the guts and adding a whammy pedal inside or anything. I just would like to make it a bit more usable for my needs. Thanks! Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

My inclination would be to mod to make things more usable, but, yeah, do this instead:

Okay but IF I HAD a vintage one in my posession, and just wanted to do this, regardless of what your opinion may be on this, please help!

Re: Modding a vintage MXR Phase 100
I personally don't have issues with making something more functional. I've been contemplating modding my vintage MXR flanger (9v plug rather than dedicated cord, better switch, somehow a LED is going too far though) but haven't gotten around to it. Honestly, I've found that using a bypass looper is preferable (although it takes up more space), as I can use the Boss LS-2 to address the volume drop.
I'd suggest really seeing if you can get along with it as-is before modding.

Alright, I found some good info on line thanks to everyone lending a hand. Ended up replacing the switch and wiring it for true bypass, and adding a DC in so I can run it from my pedal power. Didn't add an LED. Maybe I'll do that in the future, but for now I'm pretty stoked on this. What a great sounding phaser

i was gonna say, the reissues are just as good, if not better than the old ones (i've owned 4 old ones and 2 reissues) hell, it's been a mainstay on my board for the last year

Re: Modding a vintage MXR Phase 100
i've had two of these, one older (but not a "script" or anything like that, i think it was just a knackered 80s/90s one) which i loved and a more modern one that wasn't nearly as good.
