I have noticed that my home board, now devoid of any buffered pedals (and no room to add one, or need for another pedal) sounds noticeably worse-off for the lack of it. There's almost always a Boss pedal on there somewhere to help things out but, alas, not any more.

So, I'm gonna build/buy one of those little buffer boxes and strap it to the underneath, at the end of the chain so as not to mess with the fuzz at the front. I don't really care for anything too fancy as long as it does the job. There is plenty of little kits available for the Cornish and Klon versions, I've yet to find one based on the Boss buffer.

Which one would you choose? Bonus points if I can get it in the UK.

Not really worth the cost of building.

I use a Polytune 3 mini with onboard Bonafide buffer. I figured it would be a placeholder until I found a better dedicated buffer, but nope it’s fine. Better than fine.

I can build one for about £15/$20

What's on your board? Any pictures? For years I've had something(s) as "always on", a boost or compressor for instance, that does the job of a buffer just from being on.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either the Cornish or klon buffers to be fair though, both highly rated.

I'm just running this little set at the moment...



It has everything I need on it, just no buffer to sweeten the deal at the end. I don't want to change anything really, and there's space underneath

Ooft that RAT I have an '86 in a similar condition but it's not the white logo version.

Yeah that's a good looking board covering a lot of territory. Usually I'd say swap the Pitchblack for a buffered tuner but that would mess with the Analogman fuzz.

I'd probably say go for the Cornish buffer as I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about them, only people raving about how amazing they are. And if you don't like I guess you can get the klon buffer kit as well, compare and then let us know which is best

Yeah that Rat is a thing of beauty. 1984 I think. I'm pretty attached to the Pitchblack tuners and can't get on with having a TU2 or whatever in the other end of the chain...messes with my head.

I was gravitating towards the Cornish. Maybe I'll just order up the parts/kit and be done with it...I already have a few enclosures I could use for it lying around.

I mean, yeah, I'll take it if you don't mind? Happy to throw postage + a drink your way as thanks. I'm not actually that fussy (I'm more than happy with a Boss buffer when there's one on the board and they're nothing fancy).

Yep as a lot types of pedal its hugely marked up in price especially if you have the tools and some spare bits already. Although on parts some of them get very complicated, as a basic design like-for-like then the actual circuit board usually has more components than fuzz in many cases (but no knobs, so that's usually a big cost)

I was going to but then simply decided to wait with some bad tuner buffer i used until i found a pedal or two with buffering- Rubberneck and Context V2 do fine (so..more palette of noises, right?). Before and after a stereo split.

I also enabled the buffer (and always-on) on the Polytune 3 at the start of my chain. For good measure, I enabled the buffer on the Hall of Fame 2 at the end of my chain. Seems to work well for me! Saves room on my pedalboard, as well as power connectors and patch cables, as a bonus.

Also, I LOVE that rusty Rat! Wish I had it! Though I'm happy with my brand new Rat 2. Just such a classic sound all around.

It seems like you have this sorted out but is there any benefit to having the Pitch Black on the board instead of a TU-2 or some tuner with a built-in buffer?
