Could this possibly be for real? (Analogman/MXR content) UPDATE - MXR Duke of Tone LIVES

Given stuff like Boss actually making that Reddit Photoshop Dream into a real RE-2 Space Echo and MXR's previous collaborations on a Timmy I guess this could actually be happening but it's kind of wild. I have no complaints, of course, and I'm sure AM will appreciate not having to spend all his time building KOT pedals.

This would be cool if it was real.
The description says through-hole components are used in this collaboration but I'm unsure as to whether all the Prince of Tone components would fit inside such a small enclosure? Much more likely it would need to be surface mount. I'm not expert though so I could be wrong.

Yeah I'm sure they've had to make sensible compromises to build style to fit it in there. Sadly it seems they couldn't convince him to abandon the Papyrus font :k

Truly though, I really like the idea of this kind of stuff and it seems like a better way to do it than how Bill Finnegan seems to have struggled with the KTR. People get into the sound of what you make and want a taste of it, but have a beer budget, so why not have 'authorized' clones? People who love it and really want it will save up to buy the real thing every time. Hell, I was planning to grab a Mini Beano Boost from AM later this year.

If it were full of surface-mount components, that should be just fine in the vast, vast majority of cases.

Most of the time SMT components match or exceed through-hole parts these days.

A little bit less fun to repair without specialized equipment, however.

I totally agree, the only time that through-hole makes any sense is if working with voltages higher than SMT components are typically rated for (~240V), and guitar pedal circuits very rarely get anywhere near that high a voltage...

Good to see all the rumours come true.

Now all we need is the Boss/Proco Rat collaboration and the world can implode in peace

Excellent news, and it sounds great too. I'm not really into blues breaker OD but this whole idea, including the Timmy, is a great way to get these harder to get circuits out there. It's pleasing that the original designers are involved when it would be so easy to clone them and give no credit at all.

I pre-ordered from Sweetwater today. You can get it with 3 patch cables for $3 more lol.

This is awesome, and I'm SO glad they put the switch on the outside to toggle between modes!

Edited - I had thought I’d seen one in real life, but they’re not actually shipping for a few more weeks. Maybe seeing all the photos of them got me thinking about them, and then I saw something else at Guitar Center, and it confused me. I don’t know. I was sure I’d seen one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My name is on the King of Tone list, but probably won’t get to order for another 10-15 years.

I had a King of Tone for about 10 years, and just could never get it to make a sound that I was totally in love with. I know I’m probably in the minority, with regards to not loving it, but I was always just kinda meh about it. Which made me sad, because I have a bunch of other AnalogMan pedals that I love, and it was worth a lot of $. Which is why I kept holding onto it. “Maybe I’ll learn to love it…” And then I learned about someone selling a gorgeous ‘91 PRS Custom 24 in yellow, w sweet switch and 5 way selector. I’ve wanted one of those since I first played one in ‘91 (specifically, I wanted an early 90s one). He was selling for a great price and really wanted a King of Tone, so he gave me a ton in trade for the KoT. Seemed like a win-win.

Except then I felt like, maybe I didn’t give the KoT a REAL chance. So I put my name on the list again, resolved to really shake it down this time around (because a decade wasn’t enough last time?).

Maybe a Duke of Tone is the better way to go.
