recommend a rotary emulator
I feel like the missing link in my pedal board is a Leslie emulator- not a uni vibe, not a vibrato, but an honest to goodness rotary speaker simulator. who makes good ones?

I got a Strymon Lex. I am still learning it but it has proven to be pretty useful.Lost In Autumn wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 4:03 pmI feel like the missing link in my pedal board is a Leslie emulator- not a uni vibe, not a vibrato, but an honest to goodness rotary speaker simulator. who makes good ones?

Re: recommend a rotary emulator
I have a Lex, a Line 6 Rotomachine, and a DLS RotoSim. The Lex and the RotoSim are ok, they do what they can; however, this is the best "Leslie" short of a real one.

The pedals are too "boingy" IMO. I purchased a Leslie 910 (like the monolith on 2001) with a Combo Preamp pedal to use it with a guitar nd it is great, but way too big. The rotary wave is driven by your amp through an external speaker. If y9ou wanted to gig with it, you probably would need to mic it.

Re: recommend a rotary emulator
I really liked the sound of the Neo stuff in demos, and also considered an H9 for this sound and others, but ended up with a J Rockett phaser/vibrato for this role. Quite happy with it.

These Dynacord ones are legendary. Smaller than a Leslie, bigger than a Strymon.

Other options I know of:
-Electro-Harmonix Lester-K
-Electro-Harmonix Lester-G
-Neo Instruments Mini Vent II
-Dawner Prince Pulse
-Pigtronix Rototron
-Nux Roctary
-Boss RT-20
-Dunlop Roto-Vibe
-Fender Pinwheel
-Danelectro Big Spender
-TC Electronic Vibroclone Rotary
I personally love the sound of the Leslie thing, but I've never tried any of them. Dawner Prince makes really nice stuff, but I know a few guitarists I watch seem to swear by the Mini Vent II.

Re: recommend a rotary emulator
I had the Neo Micro Vent for a while. It had a brittleness in the higher frequencies that i didn’t enjoy, and couldn’t get used to, so it got sold.
I currently have the Dawner Prince Pulse, which is attempting to replicate a Doppola rather than a Leslie. I like it much more than the Neo, and the adjustable fast/slow rates are a winner.
That said, at the end of the day I still prefer the vibrato setting on the Boss Waza Chorus for a pseudo-rotary sound.
A real rotary would probably blow them all away, but i’ve not been fortunate enough to encounter one in the wild.

Re: recommend a rotary emulator
Not an effect I use enough to justify having a stand alone pedal, so I’ve been happy enough with the rotary in my H9. That said, I’ve been surprised how close I can get with other mod effects. The VB2 style pedals do a pretty decent rotary sound, as does most any phaser with a speed and depth control. Crank the speed, and keep the depth pretty low. If you throw a tremolo in on top of either of these it becomes even more convincing.
Most of the rotary emulations I’ve heard tend to be a little to chorusey/watery and come out sounding far to extreme.

Re: recommend a rotary emulator
I used to have the Pigtronix but I found this too - took up too much space for how often I used it. I now have a Wampler Terraform for my various "niche" modulation needs (alongside a stand alone phaser and tremolo which get used much more). I really like the Terraform, especially as it is knob-twiddling rather than menu-diving in operation.CorporateDisguise wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 2:33 amNot an effect I use enough to justify having a stand alone pedal.
There is a demo of its Leslie here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6-0DO4KI5A , and it looks like those blokes have tested a load more Leslie emulators too.
