Joe Gore's Cult Germanium Overdrive stays in my signal chain all the time.

Gotta love Joe Gore quietly chipping away and unaccountably being a genius.

This sounds fantastic, Joe can really play. Thanks for pointing this one out to me, I'd love to give one a try! In the UK there is a shop that sells the upgraded version with more controls so I may try it out soon hopefully.

Reading the website it's suddenly dawned on me that usually these type of pedals want to be first in the chain, seeing the impedance of your guitar. I currently have the Germanium Filter placed in the middle of my chain but yet it still cleans up wonderfully with my volume pedal. I use volume pedal for this task more than my guitar volume as it prevents any high-end roll off and I've never found a treble bleed circuit that I like. Using the volume pedal after the compressor, buffer and boost just drops the volume but doesn't alter my tone at all.
I wonder why my current germanium pedal plays so nicely in the middle of my chain. I used to use a Hawaiian Pizza Fuzz in this position and it worked because of the pickup simulator, but this DBA pedal doesn't have anything like that. It's brilliant that it does work there, just intriguing.

My chain goes:

Image

Keeley Compressor Mini (always on)
Boss TU-3
Laney TI Boost (always on)
Vox volume pedal (passive)
JAM Wahcko
JAM Ripple
JAM Lucydreamer
Death by Audio Germanium Filter
Keeley Filaments
JAM Delay Llama Xtreme
Earthquaker Devices Afterneath
TC Electronics Ditto+
Ceriatone Centura (always on)

I love Joe Gore, but I didn't know about this! I can feel the GAS slowly creeping in... :fp:

Maggie, how do you place the cult on your chain? I love how it sounds stacked with the 808 clone on Joe's demo.

It's always the first pedal in the chain. I'll put my other germanium fuzz right after it.

I've been a big fan of EQD for a few years, but my love wained somewhat as I fell for JAM pedals and more subtle effects. I still have the Afterneath on my board and a Plumes on my pedal shelf ready for use but all the others have got sold off.

I've ignored all of their most recent offerings due to the huge hype and synchronised demos all appearing at the exact same time upon release. This is their most recent pedal and I neglected to look in to it, but I'd love to have a go with one. Germanium overdrive, could be what I'm looking for. Apparently it doesn't take off a lot of low end like Plumes, so could be good. Anyone got experience of one by any chance?

Not sure why I'm unable to edit my last post, but to add to it:

Just listened to some demos and on YouTube it's definitely not my thing, but the sound bite on the EQD website sounds pretty tasty

Ooooooh man.... I don't need any of this stuff, but I'm intrigued by that Joe Gore pedal. Wonder how different these are from the lower gain settings on my Harmonic Percolator clone.

I dig the tones on the Arianna Powell demo on the EQD site, really solid playing and super tasteful tone.

I got the Special Cranker as an early Daddy Day gift and really like it. I am using it in the GE mode with the level at around 2:00 and the more and tone about 12. It is slightly saggy/crunchy when you pick hard but pretty clean overall. The feel is awesome.

Right? I want to get his new book on playing guitar. I feel like it's gonna be awesome.

I really like mine too. I heard Stefan's demo (The Pedal Zone) and fell in love. I went to my local shop, tried it, and fell in love in person too. I haven't played much guitar at all since I bought it, but it's a great sound.

Just came in here to say that I haven't bought a new pedal in probably 5+ years, but after seeing that demo video I had to give the cult a try! My Analogman Beano Boost has always been a bit tinny and harsh for my liking and I've compensated for that with amp settings, but really stoked to give this a whirl!

Please let us know how you find it. I'd love to get one myself, the only thing stopping me is the enclosure size for the Cult Channel wouldn't fit on my already full board. The standard Cult seems to be a bit elusive as I can't find one anywhere in the UK.

Cool thread.

But now I’m stressing... should I try the DBA Germanium Filter, or the one knob Joe Gore Cult Overdrive...oh the delicious pain of decision making :D

Thoughts?
