"FUCKING YES!" - the Boss RE-2/202 hype thread
It's official!
It appears to offer everything the RE-20 does and more, by including modulation with the "wow & flutter" knob. The only thing that it would appear not to do is the RE-20's "twist" thing, but that's a minor gripe. I think this may well be better than the RE-20, and maybe even than the El Capistan by being smaller, more affordable (I would assume), and offering more tape head combinations (I love modes 10 and 11). For me, it'll mostly come down to what happens when you plug in an expression pedal and start messing with the repeat rate; that's the one thing that sounds better with the RE-20 than with the Capistan and the original RE-201 won't let you do (not with your foot anyway).
Can't wait to try this thing!

Yep. Haven't been this excited for a pedal in a long time. The twist function can get in the bin as far as I care...delay solos are soooo 2002 it always seemed a waste of all that space (lol) anyway.
I wonder if the 'always on' preamp will still be present or if they've bumped that in favour of a lower noise floor?
Either way, I'll be preordering the second I can.
FUCKING YES!
*EDIT: that press release definitely feels like they hand their hand forced a little with this, what with the leak.

2019 more like, it's the whole song more or less written around that silly twist thing.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 2:42 amYep. Haven't been this excited for a pedal in a long time. I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the preamp. Hard enough to keep the thing quiet.
I wonder what the max delay time is. I hope they just stuck with the short mode. The RE-20's long mode (3-6 sec) seemed redundant to me.
The only thing I'll really miss about the RE-20 is that glorious smile.

Yeah. I think someone mentioned Boss directly intervened and had the ebay ad taken down?johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 2:42 am*EDIT: that press release definitely feels like they hand their hand forced a little with this, what with the leak.

Ctl/ Exp input might be for tap and the famous twist...? Man, I want to hear it in action!

Yeah, who knows how the seller got a hold of them. I've read this morning that some people have test models in-hand. I'd hazard a guess of a late-spring or early Summer release date.Sauerkraut wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 3:18 am

If it can't be set to control feedback/repeats then they will have missed a trick

"Set tempo: hold", so there's its tap tempo.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 3:27 amIf it can't be set to control feedback/repeats then they will have missed a trick
If you can't control the repeat rate with the exp input then I'm not buying the thing as it'll be worthless to me.

There are quite a few pedals with the tap tempo accessable by holding down the switch, but offer input for external tap tempo alternatively - which to me is a very useful feature.

As it reads "CTL/EXP" I'm guessing you can plug in an FS-5U to set the tempo (or an EV-5 or other expression pedal to control repeat rate/intensity/level(?))

Any idea how much these will cost?

What's even the point of a tape delay pedal if I can't get my Sun Ra on with my foot?

Yeah—this is good news. I could see boost>Fuzz/RAT>Halberd> RE-2 (with expression) being a perfect small setup.

Re: "FUCKING YES!" - the Boss RE-2 hype thread
My expectation is that this functions much like the recent DD-8.
It has the trail switch on the back. It has the "Set Tempo: Hold" even though there's an external connector for control & expression. You can use a dual footswitch to both tap tempo & twist.
