Even through the ebb and flow, I plan to hold on to this one.
I've kinda gotten to that point with most of my pedals. Unless it's something I really don't like anymore at all, I figure I'll make a little shelf to display the ones I don't want to play at the moment. Especially considering ebay and Reverb selling fees and such.

Mine arrived today. Somehow managed to skip customs too so no tax to pay (yay!). May I echo this original statement:

I am kicking myself in the ass for waiting so long.

Holy shit, these things are utterly incredible. I can't decide which one I like best but the Sunface BART is edging it at the moment as it sounds utterly huge. The Sun-Bender might win out for cut in a band situation but both sound delicious.

Oh, and the B(big)A(ass)R(Russian)T(transistors) are, indeed, pretty darned large...

Fucking so happy with these. Plus, free Koozie is always a bonus!

Damn. I'm gonna have to order some more now, aren't I?

That's one thick stubby holder (Koozie if you insist).

Agreed. Almost too thick ...but a very efficient insulator.

Yes!

I am still loving every one that I have! I even have an order in for two more right now:
Sun Face- BC109B, no Sun Dial
Sun Lion- bass tuned, high gain Beano, high gain General Electric germaniums on the Sun Face side, old style hand stamped graphics

After spending quite a bit of time using all mine with different amps, guitars, settings, etc, it's really obvious that he's put in the hours to really dial them in. They're just so usable across the board. There really isn't a bad sound in any of them. For my tastes, I only use the deepest setting on my Beano, so I went with the bass tune on the new one. It's supposed to start at about the lowest setting on a stock one and increase more lowend from there.

I still haven't had a chance to try the MKIV yet, but I definitely plan on it.

The BART Sun Face is a wonderful sound. It really shows how much effect single parts can make in such a simple circuit. I bought a box of those Russian transistors about a dozen years ago and have been using them here and there. They are really good. I couldn't afford to pay the big bucks for Mullards and stuff like that, so I went with what I could find that tested right and have never regretted it. David Main once said to pay attention to how transistors test and not the numbers on the case. There's a lot of truth in that. I've been using generic 2N style trannies for years in some of my builds and they have worked out fantastically well. Every now and then I've had some GE or TI or something and as long as they all tested the same, they sounded the same. Sure, Mullards, the fabled NKTs, etc sound great, but they aren't the only ones... just different!

His book is really interesting and entertaining, too:

My ear for fuzz isn't that well-tuned anymore so the little minutiae of differences between transistors would likely be lost on me. I am slightly concerned that I have been sucked back into the fuzz wormhole though. I'd got out of it years ago but this has definitely ignited a feeling again.

The best part about that is that any Sun Face will pretty much just sound amazing!

I have a sunface and it's a keeper. Lately, I've been using it as my overdrive sound too, by turning guitar volume down a bit. A few years ago, my local shop got four or five new sunfaces in stock - all with different transistor options. For fun, I tried them all and chose the Red dot NKT. I already have a silicon fuzz (austone textone). cheers analogman fans!

I just got my BC109B Sun Face and it is fantastic! There’s a nice grindy grit no matter which string or where on the neck. The lowend is much trimmed compared to the BART but there’s still plenty. It’s really clear and articulate but still really fuzzy. I love it! I’m usually rolling off a hair of my volume with the BART to clear things up a bit but it doesn’t seem necessary with the BC109B.

Just took delivery of a Mini Beano last night...

Can't wait to crank it through my AC15 later once it's a slightly more reasonable hour.

:fp: I can't imagine anyone needing 4 of those who WOULDN'T be scalping them. I mean honestly -- if you really needed 4 right now I'm willing to bet you can afford the inflated resale price because your boss is John Mayer or something.
I don't mean limiting to 4 at once but 4 ever or over time.

I'd order one and a few years later, sell it, miss it and get back on the list for another. There are people who put their name on the list once a month or so, so that their names keep popping up, one a month to buy another to scalp them.

It says on his website that you can only get on the list once at a time..

Please use this link ONLY to get on the list. If the link does not work for you just send an email to analogspam at aol.com.
If you already emailed and have not reached the top, any more emails to Analogspam will be deleted. You can get on the list again AFTER you reach the top and get your pedal, but not before then.

It took a couple years, but I finally got an MKIV. I opted for the gray Hammertone, green LED, DC jack and the standard Mullard/ Russian transistors. I also went with the ‘less trebly’ tone control and am feeling very glad that I did. It has mega treble on tap if you need it. It’s a really great take on an MKIV. Lots of sustain, nice saturation, but not too smooth. There’s a nice raggedness to it. With the gain up full, it starts to gate a bit. Backed down slightly it really fat with great sustain. I use mainly Fuzz Faces and variants, but this is going to make a real nice, different tone to have at my disposal. I really like it!
