Feeding a Boss SY1 synth pedal back into itself IS IT OK?

Dont shoot me down if this is a dumb ass question,
But I am having fun with Pladask Elektrisk Matrise parallel mixing effects & I have discovered the Boss SY1 makes some crazy sounds fed back into its self ie feeding back.
Is this sensible???, obviously for my own ears and for a good sound I am watching the volume and distortion, but could it damage the unit or crash the software?
it does have potential, some cool sounds !
