EQD Gray Channel Discontinued

When did they discontinue? .

I had no idea these were out of production. I just bought a used one on reverb that hasn’t arrived yet. I ended up paying a little more than I wanted to because I’m noticing the price climbing. Wanted to grab one before the price was potentially ridiculous in this market.

I realize it’s basically 2 modded DOD 250s, but the enclosure, modes, and the layout makes it especially worth it for me. Also, my first EQD pedal after all these years...

Eh, I had one, went back to a 250. I wasn’t surprised they dc’d it. Really dark and wooly. The best two modes were on the same channel too. I liked it more at high volume (ie deafening), but that’s not always practical for me.

Wanted to like it, ended up moving it on.

Interesting. I’ve always wanted to try one and just when I go to shop I notice the used prices are climbing and some marked up for more than they were new. I figured I’d better grab one before they hit ridiculousville. It has some interesting characteristics compared to most drives I’ve heard. Interested to try it out in my mostly ambient playing style

Yes, and the Life pedal and Cloven Hoof have also been discontinued recently. But why do these EQD pedals stay so high in price on the used market? Is it because of the combination of its popularity and corona? I'd like to try Black Ash some time in the future.

They discontinue quite popular pedals . If all my dirt was earthquaker it'd possibly be a cloven hoof, black ash, dunes. All discontinued, i presume they are just prolific and want to release new ones.

my experience exactly, just a very bland version of the circuit compared to my modded distortion+ (which i also sold on, just not a sound i use very much)

Really surprised to hear of people not gelling with the GC. I love mine, by far my favourite drive of anything I’ve used.
Tempered at the minute to stack it with a Klon style thing running really hot to force some treble into it or even with a dist+ besides it, anyone have experience with doing either?

I stacked mine with an Archer Ikon among other pedals/boosts. It added some treble back and made it more usable. Still prefer an actual 250/Distortion+ Over the GC though.

That Black Ash pedal was really limited to begin with. It was never a main line pedal. I bought and sold some discontinued EQD pedals in the last year or two. I have the first version of the Terminal and always wanted one with the soft switch but I guess that’s never gonna happen now that the prices on them have skyrocketed since they were discontinued. I bought and really disliked the Fuzzmaster General though and it sold for way more than I paid for it. Tracked down the Speaker Cranker recently and now I’m just kind of trying to decide whether to keep it or not knowing that it will only become harder to find if I do give it up now that it has also been discontinued.

I’ve only played the Gray Channel in a shop but I really liked it at the time. But take that with a grain of salt in that I’ve never owned a DOD250 and I def didn’t get to play it through my own amp using my guitar.

Perhaps that's part of their sales strategy - planned scarcity. For example, I'm not really interested in that Acapulco Gold having tried one before, but if they discontinue it, I might get FOMO and quickly buy one. Of course they can then later reissue a series for another sales round. 🤷‍♀️

I also did find the DOD 250 was too dark - good for some things I guess. Never tried the Gray Channel, but that circuit really needs a tone knob, not another DOD 250?

kind of baffling that the GC was an either/or 2-in-1, as opposed to being able to stack them. with two footswitches, at least the option to stack would be good.

EXACTLY. When I tried it I was also confused by that. I briefly owned their Spires fuzz and it operates the same way. Thankfully I didn't care for either of the fuzz circuits in it so I sold it but I kept thinking - well what if I liked both of them and wanted to hear em together, I'd have to buy 2 Spires which is fucking bogus. Clearly they know how to do this though, I mean the Hoof Reaper is this same concept but executed far better.

I have made all manner of DOD 250/MXR Dist+ variant in my day. This one was a charity build for the EA Forums:

This is the most recent one-off for a customer:

I have one and never thought it sounded amazing. Probably also too many options for what I normally like.
