Would you mount your pedalboard on your wall?

Would you mount your pedalboard on your wall?

Post by X-Ray Spex » Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:39 pm

Was just browsing Etsy and came across this very weird concept, no affiliation at all.

https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/8433319 ... ro=1&col=1

From my perspective this seems counterintuitive as I'd rather be doing everything with my feet, plus I gig live so my board needs to be portable.

What do OSG think about it?

I'm not a huge fan. It's kinda neat, but I think we're getting to a point with 3D printing where people make [some] things that are totally unnecessary just because they can. I'm all for innovation, and I'll admit that my first thought was that that would maybe be handy for synth players, but it does nothing for me. Cool engineering, but the function is lacking for me.

Those 3M command strips hold things up really well.

Right until they don't.

I've hung my pedal board that used to be my old skateboard. Wasn't great because they're mostly meant for feet. I could see hanging a pedal board for synths, but not individual pedals like that

Maybe it’s more for people who are in a body cast and cannot bend over? Back injury adaptive equipment for guitarists

.

If you have pedals that are set and forget then no advantage, but if you are constantly tweaking the pedal knobs while trying to record then having them lined up on the wall next to you or along a shelf/stand at arm's height rather than bending over on the ground all the time it could work.

I do think the marketing potential is pretty small.

I mean, if I had a few pedals I didn't use anymore and wanted to add a pop of colour to a room, maybe?

On a practical level, no, its bonkers. If I was operating my pedals with my hands I'd prefer them at an angle or better yet, flat on a raised surface.

I did once when I had my steel next to the wall. I had a handle on the top of my board and hung the whole thing on a screw. It made turning the knobs from the behind the steel easier.

Could maybe see somebody using this to use with synths, but even then you could just plop your pedalboard on top of a table. Maybe if you're strapped for space, I... guess?

I've never hung up anything heavy enough that they gave out, but I haven't bought a house yet, and every time, I get one or two that pull an 1/8" of paint with when I remove the strips. Could just be cheap paint, but damn.

This was my thought as well, but I was definitely imagining an entire board on the wall, not single pedals.

This is a cool idea, but I think a simple wood shelf (like That Pedal Show does), would look a little nicer...
