I will say it gave me pause to buy from Behringer given their reputation. Ultimately the way I'm approaching this is as a test. If I really, really like this sound, maybe I spring for a Boss or a good clone. I don't mind paying up for quality if I know I'm going to use it. Looking at my pedal board now as see three $300 pedals, which makes me a little queasy, now that I think of it.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:29 amMechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 9:13 ameven if someone agrees to rehouse it, it might be so annoying and time consuming for them that it'd be cheaper to buy a ground-up clone or other superfuzz type from a small builder (like dwarfcraft or something)

My experience with a particular custom clone builder have not been all that spectacular, but I still have one pedal on my board from that person, and another builder built me a really solid pedal, but it was pretty expensive all things considered. So yeah, maybe dwarfcraft, or a 'bigger name' builder could do that from the ground up and it'd still be cheaper than Behringer + Rehouse-- but maybe not.
Don't forget that there is still a certain stigma that *some* (but not all) people feel with Behringer pedals, and a few others, like Danelectro and other inexpensive pedals. Rehousing a pedal that you like, no matter how cheap or expensive, doesn't have to be about savings, road wear, or brand shame, it can just be about the FUN and looks too.

Re: Boss Hyper Fuzz clone
I was looking at getting an Earthquaker Fuzz Master General which is in this same style but they recently quit making them which sucks and all the used ones turning up have the old hard click switch vs the ones they made toward the end before discontinuing it that have the soft switch.
I’ll look into the Dwarfcraft stuff tho! I’ve been looking at their pedals on and off for years but never owned one or knew anyone who did so I wasn’t sure how I’d like it.

I don't mean commission a bespoke 1-to-1 FZ2 build, that would be extravagant. There are plenty of similar circuits around from good builders, dwarfcraft, ssbs, zvex. There are lots. I don't know who burned you (was it jhs???) but there are lots of good people building good fuzzes.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:29 am

the current organisation that is danelectro can rot in hell, friggin homophobes. behringer i have mixed feelings about because people have been able to put on small events and gigs simply BECAUSE behringer equipment - from mixers and PA stuff down to the pedals on the floor - is so affordable. it's a shame that decent builders are missing out because behringer rip off and undercut them, but i personally like stuff i can really rely on, so have tended to avoid behringer stuff as far as my guitar rig goes.

I own an FZ-2 and it's a beast. (got it for U$S 90 a few years ago)
Is insane how prices went up! has no sense at all... try the Behringer and if you like it you can search for an oportunity on the fz2.
As any Boss pedal, the fz2 it's built to last.

Re: Boss Hyper Fuzz clone
I used to own an FZ-2 and sold it to a local shop that actually has a few of them. You can find them for under $200 if you are patient and know where to look. Honestly, it's just a Super Fuzz using zener diodes instead of germanium and with a useless boost mode. Get a Super Unpleasant Companion fuzz and you'll have a useable third mode, a much better and nastier sound, and direct control of the octave effect via a trim pot just like the v2 Super Fuzz.
The Demon Lung is a Super Fuzz and Hyper Fuzz clone that allows you to switch diodes.

If you want one really bad, call Flipside Music in Denver. I think they have between 1 and 4 and only intend to keep 2.

Check out the Flint Amplification Bad Seed Fuzz. Just Nick has a really good demo for it.

I posted a couple of videos but they aren't on equal quality, organization, or presentation as his. They might give you an idea, though:

Re: Boss Hyper Fuzz clone
Finally got the sf300 it's a great sounding pedal - I was a big Manic street preachers fan for their first 3 albums and the boost setting on the fs300 is MSP tones, fuzz 1 is nice and can get quite extreme, fuzz 2 is a big muff but not as good. £19 well spent.
Also the plastic pedal is more sturdy than I was expecting has anyone here actually broken one stomping on it?

I think it's more a case of the internal switch/pots not being as robust or long-lived as the boss ones

Obviously you've never heard or read about the Great Behringer Purge of 2014. Thousands of posts and pics were deleted, a factory closed down, and two 'celebrity endorsers' were never seen again.

Re: Boss Hyper Fuzz clone
I did´t know about that specifically but actually I had one of their digital mixers, a DX3216 or something, die on me just a couple of weeks after the warranty expired and couldn´t be repaired and went straight into the waste bin. I´m not exactly a big fan of their build quality.
What I meant is that the pedal looks more flimsy that it actually is. Many talk about rehousing it in a sturdier enclosure and personally I wouldn´t bother, mostly for the price tag.

They´re definitely way less robust than the boss ones, that´s for sure.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 11:17 amI think it's more a case of the internal switch/pots not being as robust or long-lived as the boss ones

Re: Boss Hyper Fuzz clone
Just bought a used EQD Fuzzmaster General so I’m now curious to see how that stacks up. If for some reason I cant get it to do what I want in this realm I’ve been scoping those Solid Gold FX 76 and 76 Plus fuzzes. Apparently it’s a pretty great super fuzz/octave style variant and the Plus version (which I think just came out) has a weird auto way filter that can be engaged. I wouldn’t give a shit about the auto way aspect so much as it would be rad if I could set it to sound like a cocked way that wasn’t moving at all and use the engage switch to just blast in with a different fuzz tone when I wanted to. All the demos only show the way being used in a ridiculous fashion so I’ll probably never know.
