Re: Which Rat....?????
I owned a 90s big box vintage reissue, a rat II and a turbo rat at some point in the '00s. I found the big box reissue was the best of those three. Then ten years ago I found a small box one from '86 for €85. I believe the hype now, it beat all the other ones. It's by far the best distortion pedal I ever owned and it's not going anywhere.

Re: Which Rat....?????
My FatRat rules. I have Keeley modified one that sits in a box, as well as a vintage one. If you switch out the chip that comes in the pedal for a vintage 308, it's mahvelous.budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:59 amI have the choice of a FatRat pedal or a Kinnatone modded Rat2 pedal. The FatRat comes in at 150$, the modded Kinnatone at 120$.
I'm leaning towards the FatRat because you can change the chip, but I just don't know.

Buy both, get rid of the one that doesnt speak or work for you after a week playing it. Sell it back for a bit more to offset the shipping of both to you.budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:59 amI have the choice of a FatRat pedal or a Kinnatone modded Rat2 pedal. This one for me. I love the way Aaron tunes these, and the clipping options and dual gain range switch make it super versatile:

Re: Which Rat....?????
My main distortion is a late 80s Turbo Rat and I am never selling it. It’s thick and fuzzy with a fair amount of gain, but it will clean up a bit and be more overdrive like. Great pedal.newer versions are much thinner and raspier.

Re: Which Rat....?????
I've had my Arc Effects Soothsayer for a while, and have quite enjoyed it. When I tried it on bass, I'd wished that it had more EQ controls, and looking around for a RAT for my bass rig, I found this:
Magnetic Effects Lonely Robot
Especially since it's a limited release, I grabbed one. I figured I could sell it if I don't dig it, but I have a feeling that I will. Should have it in the next week or so hopefully.

Re: Which Rat....?????
I had one of these and I could have had a bad apple, but I was so disappointed. The backstory is that I loved my cheapo rat 2 and used it for a lot of medium gain work. However, i sold because I was “upgrading” to the soothsayer. I got the soothsayer in and it felt like the versatility went out the window. It went from no gain to full on distortion. I tried all the dip switches in the back with different configurations and I couldn’t get it to tame to my taste. Is this pedal just full on heavy all the time in your experience?

Re: Which Rat....?????
^^^^^
I bought a Utilitarian and it crushes! Im not a RAT fanatic/expert but this has amazing distortion tones.
I've yet to leave the bedroom with it yet but it works really nicely on keyboards as well. And its surprising small which is nice.
Super happy I picked it up, A Rat/Klon 2in1 is really nice combo for sure.

Re: Which Rat....?????
I haven't had that problem with my Soothsayer, though I use the LED mode most of the time. I know that Aaron released custom models with a shifted gain taper, and perhaps that was a response to the concerns you mention. Mine is my main mid-gain option stacked after a Hudson Broadcast . Either the HB or the Soothsayer high gain switches offer heavier distortion with different flavors.Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 8:46 pmI had one of these and I could have had a bad apple, but I was so disappointed. That Reuss Klon/Rat sounds like a really useful box.

I prefer my fat rat to my vintage rat. Both have LM308 chips.budda12ax7 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:59 amI have the choice of a FatRat pedal or a Kinnatone modded Rat2 pedal. The FatRat comes in at 150$, the modded Kinnatone at 120$.
