Interesting Effect Idea, electronics experts help me with this one!

Post by burker » Sun Nov 19, 2006 10:44 am

Hey, I had this idea when I was half asleep last night..
Is it possible, to make a pedal, that would be in a volume pedal/wah enclosure, the signal would go in , then theyre would be two effects loops, and the pedal would sort of "fade" between the two when activated (pedal down, loop one, pedal up loop 2, and in between it would blend them) , it would have a switch like a wah pedal, which would make the whole thing bypassed... I would be interested in building a pedal like this, not sure if any like it are out there, but i dont know anything about electronics, aside from simple guitar repairs....

anyone think they can draw up a schematic??

I imagine it could make some wonderfully bizzare noises with the proper pedals attached to it. 8)

I'm not an expert in electronics but the scheme wiull be very easy..but what fx loop of the two will be active when it's switched off ?

the idea was that ittd be no effects when turned off, just bypassed through.

The wiring schematic would be easy .. as far as I can tell you can get any pot to work with a wah treadle (although I'm not 100% sure of the actual mechanics involved) so you could use a blend pot and that would do the job. Otherwise it's just an either/or circuit .. in parallel, I guess.

Yep, that'll do it.

So simple, you could chuck in some other interesting stuff, like a couple of buffers or maybe a feedback loop .. or put a graphic equalizer in each loop, cut the treble on one but not the other and then when you moved the pedal it would sound exactly like

.. a wah.

I think that a adding a variable resistor on each side to adjust the volume of each loop would also be benefitial.

Edit: I just put the change in the lower right corner of the origional above. it's not necissary but it might help to achieve balance between the two loops.

You could put a wah in one of the effects loops and use both the wah and the fx loop/wah pedal, at the same time.

"the pedal would sort of "fade" between the two when activated (pedal down, loop one, pedal up loop 2, and in between it would blend them."

the Ernie Ball volume/panner does exactly that. it's passive, no batteries or buffer. i use two, one to control 2 loops and one as a master volume (it has dual mono in and outs) where the switch sends the signal to my tuner instead of my amps. the switch isn't a bypass, but can be set up as one...it can either switch between mono or stereo operation and/or switch between two loops (and fade between) depending on how a blend knob and the inputs/outputs are set.

Oops, forgot to include this in my last post.
THIS is exactly what you want, but it's obviously expensive(if you've heard of the company before, you'd understand).

the funniest thing about that whole set-up is the expression pedal is an Ernie Ball!

seriously, I have 3 and spent half that...2 used as the loop and the 3rd as an expression pedal for the Voodoo Vibe.

I just want an echoczar. It sounds nice and pretty and for some reason, that's what I look for when I'm searching for delays that can self-oscillate. It's got controlled oscillation which is cool and can't be found on other pedals.

That would be like turning a wah up to eleven.

The echoczar really does look like an amazing beast .. how many of them the guy will manage to make before he runs out of the right chips or burns himself out is another matter. He's already had to put the price up once.
