My Zvex collection begins to expand again...oh-oh!!!

Post by zhivago » Mon Mar 05, 2018 2:14 pm

Lately I decided to get some more old Zvex pedals like the ones I used to have years ago.

I had a phase where things with my Zvex collecting got a bit out of hand...

Image

I kept getting them and eventually I overloaded and purged almost all of them...after a couple of years I started missing the little noisy buggers! :D

For the past year or so, I have kept an eye on Ebay and Reverb and managed to score a few things...

First, it was a Box of Metal Vexter...I have these odd moments that I want to play Master of Puppets, and this pedal totally gets me there. The Gate effects is really cool for big riffs.

Image

...then a Nano amp...I had one of the first standard blue ones back in the day...it was nice getting another...and in yellow sparkle!

Image

Then came an Octane 3...in blue sparkle!

Image

and then a bizarre twist of fate brings a Super Duper in...ermmm...light blue sparkle! :D

Image

I'm not sure where I will end up this time, but I will update this thread as I go along and unleash The Madness! :D

That nano amp is so cool. What is sound family is it in ? Vox-y, Marshally-y, Fender-y (I'm assuming not the latter)

Edit: Never mind, I found this great video from Zachary on the amp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAk6irFcYbg

Marshall-y for sure...but it really does the nice hairy cleans thing so well too.

And it is loud! I use an attenuator with it!

I remember when those first came out. Zvex was absolutely ahead of the game on the whole "micro tube head" thing. I don't know enough to definitively state that they started the bandwagon that others hopped on, but it was certainly the first super-low-wattage head I became aware of.

I love ZVEX stuff. Over the years, I’ve had a Mastotron fuzz, a Fuzz Factory, a Box of Rock, a Distortron. Currently, I have a Double Rock, which I’ll never sell

Has anyone ever used the super seek trem? It looks like the kind of thing I'd be really into (similar to the Goatkeeper), but part of me thinks it might be just too fiddley with all those knobs.

I had a mastotron. I actually loved that pedal, but I couldn't do it justice as a player and my rig was terrible back then. Zvex definitely makes good quality pedals. I would like to try a super duper

I think this might be the case...I don't remember anything remotely like that existing back then.

At the time that I bought my old one, I was living in a different area and I was picking up radio with it sometimes! Mind you, the Octane 1 I had did the same sometimes!! :w00t: :D

I've had two Seek Trems and a Tremorama...all cool pedals, but yes changing things on the fly is tricky.

What I used to do with mine is set different volumes and then with the step change switch I had either normal on/off type trem or two random on off ones. Pretty cool for freakout sections :)

Definitely try a SD2IN1...they really are great pedals...I've had four in the past 15 years. 8)

I've got a thing for Zvex' right now as well.

So far I've gotten a

Nano Head (your old one)
Zvex Super Hard On
Zvex Super Duper 2 In 1, a 1 of 1 in a Union Jack paint scheme
Zvex Super Duper 2 In 1
Zvex Channel 2
Zvex Fuzz Factory Reverse - Spam Can 111
Zvex Lo-Fi Loop Junky
Zvex Mastotron

And I have a Sonar coming in.

Between this and my Way Huge addiction, I should be set for bankruptcy

Interesting idea. I may need to check one out. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Wah probe looks to be an obscene amount of fun.

Vexter pedals are frustrating because the input jack and 9v are so close and cramped. I have a painted SHO with power plate and it's amazing, brings out the best in everything before and after it in the signal.

I had a BoR and Distortron and, while they did sound good (especially the distortron with the extra EQ control) they were a bit flat and squashed, didn't respond well to dynamics compared to something more classic like a distrtion+

I'd looooove to get my hands on an Octane or superduper
