By the way, as much as I love my small box Rat, I’d never pay >€200 for it. I was lucky to find mine for €85 years ago. I’d be willing to pay up to double that for one now, but no more. There’s loads of fine distortion pedals to be had for far less than the >€400 people ask for them.

Jup. On Reverb, unsurprisingly, some folks are trying to get for their flat box Rat what you might reasonably pay for an RE-201.

I’ve had tons of RATs, from white face to the VFE Alpha Dog to my Lonely Robot. The VFE was the best but honestly any USA one will do

I have a FAT Rat and it is a thing of sonic beauty. It sounds so good I'm keeping the OP07 in there. I used to have a 90's big box "woodcutter" reissue with the LM308 and the FAT RAT sounds better to me, it's like I could control the high end better with the FAT RAT and it also sounds better at low gain than my old 90's one. Also there are a lot of counterfeit LM308's out there I've been led to believe so beware of that.

I hope not. But I was just describing the unit that I had, for a proper comparison.

so..... i got a lil' rat today.

basically, none of the rats i had sounded like my rat 2 which is on my pedalboard in the practice space so i grabbed my rat 2 as the reference to see if i could get the lil' rat to sound like trusty. it was 99% there.

That’s good to hear. Thanks for sharing. How’s its overdrive/subtle distortion 7 to 9 o’clock range?
Asking cause that’s where I find the Jam pedals Rattler a little lacking; it doesn’t do subtle like a my “real” Rat, basically skips it and goes straight to the rawk thing. Which it does a great job at, but it’s not nearly as versatile as I’d like it to be.

well i did notice the "distortion" knob is way more linear than a normal rat 2.

I wish the Mooer Black Secret wasn't in the tiny form factor. It sounds great but I don't use a pedal board and patch cables weigh more than the pedal so it flops over and stuff.

Sounds like you need to try a TC Electronic Magus Pro. It doesn’t cost much more than the Mooer, but is just big enough so it won’t flop over, plus has top-mounted jacks and a fat rat imitation on top of classic and turbo rat modes. I still haven’t spent much time with mine, but it may well make me sell my Rattler.

Niiice, had never heard of that one.

I recently got one (Magus Pro) and so far I can only recommend. Sounds pretty similar to (current) RAT, I can't say for Fat and Turbo as I never used them. Well built, excellent size (neither large, neither small), top mounted jacks, no noise, the switch looks a bit flimsy but I'm keeping it in one position so no issues.

I am using Magus Pro as a drive in front of high gain distortion, I'm not using it for its own high gain. For the cost, excellent choice.
