Good guesses, but not a Rat variant or anything by Boss.

;D

Not Boss. I’m not sure I’d even want a Metal Zone for free.

Not a fuzz.

This is at the milder end of the dirt spectrum.

If the company who put this out is to be believed they eventually caved to perceived demand and released this.

Oh, I'm an idiot. I thought "I just bought a fuzz" meant this was the fuzz you bought.

Is it a boutique tubescreamer clone?

Depends on your definition of boutique.

EQD Plumes? They took forever to release a Tubescreamer variant, and finally made the Palisades, then a smaller version in The Dunes. Plumes is farther from a TS than the other two, but is SO good and really cheap.

Ding ding!

Yep, it’s a Plumes.

I’ve been a Tube Screamer skeptic/hater for a while, but tried a Palisades a few years ago and was impressed by the sound of it, but too large and expensive and complicated.

Initial impressions are good. It’s loud AF in positions 1 and 2. Overall it’s also quite bright, but fortunately it sounds good with the tone control well below noon.

I have an Archer, and this is a very different animal while having a similar midrange bump. This can get spikier and more aggressive.

Seems well made, and switching is truly silent, which is nice.

I've always loved things that are TS-related, but have never tried an original TS-type circuit. I bought a Palisades years ago, loved the sound, but didn't like how big it was, so I upgraded to the Dunes when it came out. Treble booster into Dunes is my all-time favorite high gain sound. I bought a Plumes for bass, but weirdly enough, I'm not as much of a fan of Plumes on guitar or Dunes on bass. All this to say, if you also play bass, try it on bass as well! REALLY killer bass gain tone.

Now the real question! Did you get the original color scheme or one of the alternative colors?!?

Original color scheme here.

I do play bass as well. Given how bright is is I’m skeptical, but someone else whose opinion I also respect said the same.

I’ll probably give it a shot on bass at practice tomorrow.

Does it do anything similar to your Rat-as-treble-boost thing?

I checked out Palisades a while ago for that but i think its quite possibly one of the settings that got reduced out for the Dunes...and to me the Plumes takes the Dunes halfway to a Klon or something- is a bit different to a TS?
