BYOC is going out of business

Post by Steadyriot. » Mon Sep 16, 2024 8:33 pm

I never ordered from them (fairly cost prohibitive from Europe) but I thought some of you would want to know.

Damn, those guys have been a bit of an institution for so long! Lots of competition now though I guess.

Now we just have to sit back and wait for them to become collectibles.

Man, that's rough. I bought a bunch of pedal kits from them over the years. Didn't finish all of them, but the ones that I did were great.

how long is it going to take before a byoc is listed on reverb for like $500?

i think for a time they were the only place doing a complete wah kit with full treadle enclosure. again, not cheap but cool to have the option. sad to see one of the OGs close down!

rest in power, I loved their stuff years ago and kinda forgot they were around and I guess I wasn't the only one.

Years ago there just was so much gear that companies weren’t reissuing or cloning. Or your only option was buying expensive boutique stuff.

These guys had a niche if you knew how to work a soldering iron. Now there’s multiple options of almost everything you can think of, it’s already built for you, and generally affordable. Hard to compete with that.

Also it’s been rumored for years that through hole components are going the way of the dinosaurs sooner than later. Maybe they’re seeing the writing on the wall on multiple fronts?

As much as I don't want to be a vulture... It sadly doesn't look like there's much left.

I’m curious if anybody who ordered from this sale has received your order. I could imagine they are pretty slammed fulfilling orders. But I know a few people who haven’t heard any updates or received anything.

I ordered two pedal kits on 9/16 and have not heard a thing since. Waiting patiently, quietly hoping for a "ye of little faith" situation.
