I think half o Avatar's business must've been this exact 2x12 cab in these colors. I've owned and sold 2 so far.

Re: Setup of the day
i've had mine since the 1st run in '95-'96. It's a desert island pedal for me. It's the only pedal that's never been replaced on my board since I added it in the mid-'90s despite the huge size. It's more hi-fi sounding than the Fulltone or a vintage Univibe, and that was Mayer's intention. It can be dialed to hit a more vintage sound, but overall the tone is brighter and more full range than an old Shin-Ei Univibe.
I also use the Trem functions a lot. It has a lot of tremolo tones available. I use an expression pedal to control the speed on the trem and vibe.
I don't really use it for chorus, but it can do that and some phaser tones. The Vibrato is very nice, I use it for that as well. A 'secret' function that's mentioned in the instructions is a psuedo-echo in one of the trem modes that is very similar to a Vox Repeater.

Re: Setup of the day
i went deep into the vibe rabbit hole a couple of years ago, and emerged with the Drybell Vibe Machine as my favourite. It was the black version - i think the new blue one is a bit different. One thing that the Drybell does well is the ‘double throb’ thing - aka the heartbeat- when the depth is wound up. A lot of vibes don’t do that at all.
As for Jam vibes, i had two and they sounded very different. One had a nice midrange grind that i enjoyed, while the other was the opposite and sounded like piss. I don’t think there was anything ‘wrong’ with it, just variation in components i suspect. It worried me that two of the supposedly same item could sound so different. I hope yours is a winner.
Both the Jam and Drybell run on 9V.

Re: Setup of the day
Mustang > Mosky C4 Compressor > Digitech Ventura Vibe > Digitech Obscura Delay > Roland Cube Chorus 60

Inspired by Johnny Marr's That Pedal Show.
Had to make do with what I have at home just now, so the Mustang stands in for the Marrguar, with the Ventura Vibe providing a subtler chorus emulation than the amp's onboard one.
That subtle-ish echo JM has on the whole time really does add a pleasing depth to your sound. I've always tended to play delays in a more obvious way, but I could be a convert to that extra little bit of bounce at the end of the chain.

Re: Setup of the day
It surprised me just how much delay JM uses, but how little you can hear it whilst he plays. The delay really keeps out of the way of his playing and fills the sound more like a reverb traditionally would. Very interesting. His use of delay actual reminded me of the Halo from Keeley, the way it surrounds playing and adds width.
Nice setup, would love to hear some recording of it

Re: Setup of the day
Unfortunately the Cube is quite noisy, especially with a compressor boosting the noise floor, so while it's okay for noodling at home it's not really ideal for recording. Actually, compressors are the most problematic pedals in any chain in my experience; I should probably invest in a noise gate to run after the damned things. If somebody made a tuner with a built-in noise gate it'd be a sure-fire hit!GreenKnee wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 2:24 amIt surprised me just how much delay JM uses, but how little you can hear it whilst he plays. Setting up my desk/workspace is definitely my winter project for when I'm off work next month, so maybe I'll have something worth sharing eventually.

Re: Setup of the day
The compressor will only be amplifying noise from things before it in the chain, i.e your guitar and cable, and so shouldn't necessarily make a noisy amp noisier.
The single coils of the Mustang will be naturally relatively quite noisy but shielding, good cable and removing possible sources of noise (your position in relation to your amp, certain lighting etc.) should help massively. I use a compressor (Keeley Mini) always on and my '62 Jag through my '67 Bassman is silent when not playing (but still holding the strings) and so there's no reason your setup shouldn't be able to be silent as well. Or, at least as silent as your Cube will allow if that's producing some noise anyway.

Re: Setup of the day
I actually remembered that I'd rolled the volume knob quite a way back for a previous setup (with fuzz), so that might be partly responsible, but yeah, the Cube has a fair amount of background hiss even without a cable plugged in, so that accounts for some of it at least.
