Re: Setup of the day
No apology necessary. I was aiming for Bob Mould's slightly-modulated, direct-to-board,MXR Dist+ vibe -- early Hüsker Dü!
I'll muck around and see if I can hit what I'm chasing.

Ah, that would be why! I’m an awful sellout and only ever listen to Candy Apple Grey

Re: Setup of the day
That Orange setup is so nice. I've never spent any real time with one, and I guess I have this binary amp thing where I like my amps "clean-clean" or "pretty crunchy".
I think I need to get over that.
A Mosrite catching some Orange-voiced "gritty cleans"? That sounds like the BUSINESS.

I have a feeling you’d like Orange amps. They’re like less tight Marshall sound. Good for noise making.MrShake wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 5:11 amThat Orange setup is so nice. Re: Setup of the day
Funnily enough i just scored this Rocker 15 on eBay. Really impressed.
It’s loud ( excellent!)
Clean channel is almost vox like with a JM ( excellent!)
Dirty channel goes from the grit mentioned above to a real solid rock tone with lots of tight bottom end even with single coils. ( excellent!)
The power switching options are amazing and the tone is pretty similar across all the settings ( 1/2 , 1, 7 & 15 watt) unlike the little vox ac4 tv this replaces which suffered from loss of sparkle on the lower power settings compared to full power
All around excellent purchase then…

Ps. I reckon you’ve got that dialed. Your clip above really said Husker Du to me. Maybe you could go even “fizzier”? Moulds tone always sounds quite trebly to me?

Re: Setup of the day
Thanks! Yeah, it's funny, my mixing setup is garbage, and it's like I'm AFRAID to go that trebly until I export it to MP3 (for now), but you're spot on, it's not slashy enough.
I edited a post above, but here's the sound after 3 minutes spent remixing for more treble and fizz and it's STILL not there. My mediafire app is all screwy so can't tell if I properly redirected.
Candy Curtain - Don't, Bob, Don't
I'll stop monopolizing the thread and let the gorgeous Oranges have the floor, but in case anybody listens to that link above, it's a hot bridge humbucker, a cheap Dist+, a Donner pitch shifter set to detune +/-5 (blended to taste), and some compression at the end of the chain. Not a tone knob to be found on the board.
No amp, no cab sim, straight into the "board" in GarageBand. A little EQ in the box to cheat some breathing room in the mix since it was so first-take. Crank those highs! Don't be scared!
You can Hüsker Dü it yourself!

Re: Setup of the day
Ergh, since sorting out my board the lucky cat & DMM Nano are popping when I switch them on in the effects loop. They’re after the CE-2 in the loop chain, and everything has isolated power. Swapped a few patch leads around but no joy. Will need to test every cable

After several years of just using the Surfybear I've put myself together a pedalboard again. Bought a new fuzz and all haha!

I've got one of Tims Super Unpleasant Companions as well...really great Super Fuzz/Shin-Ei clone - his wife gave it to me as a tip for some work I did for her! When I build a bigger board it'll go on it along with some others of his.
