Recommendations for Echo/Reverb combo pedal.
I'm on the hunt for a pedal that can do a slapback echo and spring reverb in one. Nothing overly complicated, and on just one on/off switch (kinda like the RV-3). If the RV-3 had a spring option, it's be perfect. There's obviously the new Boss RE-2 but the reverb is kinda shitty on that - as per the original Space Echo units. Can't be dealing with more than one switch and trying to tap dance into a mid-8 of a 200bpm song while playing and singing at the same time Needs to be able to take a battery too (I know, I don't want much do I? )
Basically the sound I'm looking to get is akin to the guitar slap/verb you might hear on a Dead Kennedys record.
Anything spring (lol) to mind with anyone here?

My favorite pedal ever.
Doesn’t do spring reverb though, but worth checking out.
Otherwise, an El Capistan should get you there.

The Keeley Memphis Sun comes to mind.
No battery capability though.

Whatever you do, don’t waste your time on a Keeley Caverns. That shimmery-sounding piece of shit has the worst attempt at spring reverb I ever heard.

The more I look, the more I realise that trying to achieve this goal might be impossible. Almost everything close doesn't like batteries (or will eat one extremely quickly). Maybe I should just get a little delay for the slapback and let the room be the reverb

Yeah, or give up on this effect for live use. I like just having my 3 pedals on the floor and the ability to space them out really far (plus not worrying about having to find power up by the mic stand). every video I have ever seen of this was indicative of it SUCKING.Sauerkraut wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 1:04 amWhatever you do, don’t waste your time on a Keeley Caverns. That shimmery-sounding piece of shit has the worst attempt at spring reverb I ever heard.
I guess the calatinbread is the best I have see in recent memory in terms of overall sound. Makes me think of Swervedriver esque sounds.
Personally I have a Rever that does this stuff pretty good but it has a lo-fi vibe that most people don't dig on when it's just used as a reverb/echo jawn instead of as a Reverse reverb thing.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Yep. I’d add an analog delay and call it a day.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 1:13 amMaybe I should just get a little delay for the slapback and let the room be the reverb
Maybe a DM-2W. Those have a bit more “chirp” that I think would suit the sound you’re after.

Don’t give up yet! There’s loads of pedals out there, one must be able to do the job you want it to do.
Maybe the Danelectro Spring King!
A real spring reverb with a slap back delay built in! Also a lot of popular mods for it too.

Doesn't take batteries, but I have been liking the Keeley Magnetic Echo. Not a true reverb, but it does the slightly wobbly slapback, is fairly affordable, and has replaced reverb for me.

I'd imagine you'll have a hard time with the battery thing. As a class, delay and reverb are usually pretty sore on power, aren't they?

These may be bigger and more fiddly than you want, but I know the Boss DD-500 has some reverbs, and ALL the delay. The smaller DD-200 might do the same thing, but I haven't played with one. I want to say that these can run on batteries as well...but I'm not sure for how long.

The Zoom CDR-70 and MS-50G have lots of reverbs and delays. And they take batteries.

I know it doesn't take batteries, and I have no hands-on experience, NONE, but the Donner RevEcho is half off right now, and I ordered one and thought of your post.
Doesn't quite meet your criteria, though - but maybe worth glancing at anyway?
