Best Flanger for Jet engine effect

Post by Arthon » Fri May 27, 2022 7:39 am

I have searched the internet and didnt find a clear answer. Wich Flanger is the best for the jet engine effect? MXR? EHX? Boss? Catalinbread? Mooer?

PS : Something also user friendly. Pedals with more then 4 knobs are my worst nightmare.

I have listened to many Flanger comparaison, and the ADA stand out. But... really hard to find in Canada and quite expensive. Too expensive for me at least.

Is there a builder that makes a clone somewhere?

Now, I use the Mooer Elec-Lady. The EHX Stereo Flanger will give me a more pronounced jet engine effect?

I bought an AD/A reissue flanger and was never able to dial it in.

If you just want that jet flanger sound I'd save your pennies for a Maxon Jet Riser. They are quite pricey new, but they are a niche pedal that aren't exactly in high demand, so I feel like people get them as an impulse buy, get bored of them and then sell them for way less. I've had this pedal on my watch list and if you are patient you can snap one up for half off new, if not better.

I don't know from personal experience, especially since flangers aren't my favorite effect, but for another option I wonder if the EQD Pyramids could do the jet flanging effect...

I can't say, since I haven't tried the Mooer.

I can get a jet engine effect from my DOD Phaser, but it might not be the type you're looking for.

The Reverb demo is very cool, but too complicated for me. I want something simple and easy to tweek on stage not necessary versatile.

Simple answer here is the MXR Flanger. Micro Flanger if you're fine with having less control in a more pedalboard-friendly size, or the Boss BF-2 if you want something very similar in a Boss-style enclosure.

Basically Flangers seem to come in two large 'flavors', the "borderline chorusy flange" of the EHX Electric Mistress ala Gilmour, Andy Summers, Keith Levene, and the "chewy swoosh" thing that the MXR does ala EVH, John McGeoch, WIRE etc. Both can do a lot of things, but I'd say the swoosh of the Electric Mistress is fairly tame compared to the MXR, and the MXR doesn't do the syrupy chorus sounds quite as well.

The A/DA is kind of the creme-de-la-creme option and can purportedly do both of these things well, but they can be hard to find/expensive and supposedly the PBF ones are pretty hit or miss, so I'd just skip it unless you run into one in the wild that you like.
And you find out life isn't like that

I had the Zero Point. It’s a good pedal, and a bit unique in the way it operates, but is not the best for maximum jet swoosh.

I’d recommend the MXR, as suggested above, preferably the full version (117).

Nice. Thank you all.

I am gonna look for the MXR, the ADA and the Maxon.

Probably gonna end up with the MXR since the two others are quite rare.
