Call me Ahab
I've been searching for one of these for a long time and had one or two slip through my grasp. I've loved the ZVex Octane III for years now and it's been one of my favorite pedals since plugging into one. I have several but have long been hunting for a I or II version. Today, I have II and it looks like an early one! I know not many were built but this in #027.
The search continues for an Octane I.

Re: Call me Ahab
there's a lot of love on here for these pedals. i build a clone of one a few years ago and it was pretty rad.

I will call you Ahab when you get a WHITE version of one of these pedals.

i had an octane 3 and there weren't a bad sound in it. i'd be curious as to what the differences between i-ii-iii are

Re: Call me Ahab
I had a very early pre-Myrold I and three IIIs...sound-wise to my ears they were identical, pretty much...the IIIs, were probably a tad quieter. I think Zach has said in the past that that was the main difference.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:33 ami had an octane 3 and there weren't a bad sound in it. i'd be curious as to what the differences between i-ii-iii are
Ultimately I kept the III I had at the time and moved the I as there was no tonal difference I could hear.

Oh that's lovely! One of my Octane's is that same kinda metallic finish. I don't have any of the Laura Bennet versions and I don't know why, I really like her design work.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 10:10 amThat I was awesome! My 3 is just a normal one, but I really it!

Re: Call me Ahab
I contacted ZVex about doing a custom Octane in white sparkle but they don't do sparkle finishes anymore. When they do a run of white, they can add glitter but they weren't doing any runs of white in the near future.
Would you call me Ahab if an old Octane bit my leg off below the knee?

Thanks! I regret not buying more of her work when they were new. That is how long I’ve had that Woolly Mammoth… since 2005. Time sure does fly.hulakatt wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 1:32 pmOh that's lovely! One of my Octane's is that same kinda metallic finish. Re: Call me Ahab
IIRC, the differences are mostly suppressing radio interference and adding in the LED. Practical differences include a bit of a volume difference as well. I believe the II was the shortest lived version, according to Mr Z.Vex.MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:33 ami had an octane 3 and there weren't a bad sound in it. i'd be curious as to what the differences between i-ii-iii are

Re: Call me Ahab
I had a couple of ZVex around that time but I sold them off to fund other stuff. One that really did love was a kanji Fuzz Factory but I sold it cause I couldn't remember what knob was what and I bought an early vexter just so I could have a visual reference to keep track of the knobs. That felt like overkill and kinda dumb so I sold both. The vexter never sounded near as good as that kanji and those kanji are friggin hen's teeth nowi love sharin foo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 1:46 pmThanks!
