haha. ive done this. i had to point it away from me and then put my longest lead in and stand in another room with the doors closed. dont think the neighbours appreciated it. i still wonder if I may have done any damage to the speakers... 50w Fender Prosonic amp through a 2*12 w/ Vintage 30's

I do this all the time with a 50 watt tube amp and I never find it to be loud enough. Am I insane? I think so!

I doubt that amp can hurt those speakers. Despite the '30' moniker, they are 60 watts. I've had a pair in a 105 watt Twin Reverb II for a long time and I don't think I could hurt them either.

StevenO, you're insane for not getting a bigger amp!

Oh I'll be picking up a fender twin reverb 1x15 and an ampeg v4 soon enough. VOLUME!

That ought to just about do it. I'm jealous of that Twin 15 already and you don't even have it yet.

Ha, good stuff. I once cranked my Fender/Rivera Concert amp to 8.5 and broke a few table top items on the second floor.

I love unholy loud amps. :)

If you really want to rattle windows, there's nothing like an Ampeg SVT 300 watt tube head into an 8x10 cab.  Talk about moving air...or just about anything else in the same building.  Crank the mids for some extra punch.

It is truly amazing my parents and neighbors put up with the 9 piece band practicing in the garage (insulated, but that only reduces the volume by a small percentage).  Guitars, bass, drums, organ, horn section...man it was loud...but great.

Amps have an entirely different character when they are pushed.  If you're a bass player like me (probably not!), having the air current from the speakers flap your pants is something you have to experiience first hand.

i passed up a good deal on a 50W bassman because I could stand in front of it cranked and it didn't hurt my ears. I don't have that problem with the vt-22 :)

during my last band rehearsal i played through three amps at the same time (100W marshall mosfet + 4x12, 100W marshall JMP MkII + 4x12, 120W hiwatt-converted sound city 120 + 4x12), all on 10. the other guitarist played through an SF twin (the UL 135W version) and an ampeg vt-22.

it was pretty loud :D

how did you find that out?

I turned my 135watt silverface Twin on 10 once, but I was afraid to touch the strings, so I just hit the wood of the guitar and that was loud enough to make me crap my pants.

I can't do that with one of my amps. Its a fender super twin reverb... they are wierd amps they only made for about three years. 180 watts of tube power if you have it on full with the boost turned on. Oh and the thing is very very clean even at those volumes.
