Hello Everyone, i just ran across what appears to be a 1960's Fender bassman on my local craigslist. It has blackface cosmetics but also includes a presence knobs. It looks to be in pretty good condition and the owner said he recently retubed it with sovteks. Does any one know what year bassman this is might be? He's asking $700 for head and cab, should i hit this? My other options a 68 silver edge Super reverb. what would you do!?

I think you've found a 6G6 or 6G6-A blonde bassman that has either been re-tolexed or painted black.

Grab it without hesitation, and hurry. Made famous on many Beatles records, these things are ridiculously expensive. $700 is grand larceny esp. if it has a cab.

If it looks like the pic below (do some googling to be more sure) then go now. Now!

Buy it. Now.

They did make a few of the last blonde Bassman amps with black tolex, blackface and white knobs. One recently sold on eBay for over $1500 w/cab. I have a blonde '62 Bassman and it's my new favorite amp.

Ah, that's probably what it is.

This is up there with the all-time legendary amps Fender ever made. If it's on Craigs, it might be gone already. You have GOT to do what you can to grab this.

Buy it and buy it quick!

That's the most recorded amp in Beatles recording history. They all played through it. It was THE guitar amp for most of the recordings from about 64 onwards.

Yeah, not to mention early Who records. I play mine through a pair of old Vox Celestion silvers and it simply kills.

As jetset already said, the last version of the 6G6-B ('64ish) had blackface cosmetics, but with white knobs and a numbered control plate. They also made Princetons with this look, also known as blackface white knob or BFWK for short.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that he's not responded back to this thread because he's on his way. At least that's what should be the case. Don't take the time to reply. Just get over there and get that amp!

Or better yet, maybe he was on an iPhone outside the guy's house, or on his laptop getting wifi from the starbucks next door, and is in there doing the deal as we speak. :D
i sure hope so! :)

oh man, jealous!!! There's a blond '63 head-only on my local CL for $1250. I was thinking of buying a junky Bassman Ten and sort of converting it to one of these. The MV would become the Presence.

If you're patient, you should be able to find a real head for well under a grand. I picked up mine for $750, though it needed a little servicing. Now is a great time to pickup brown/blonde amps compared to two years ago.

I'm optimistic, but I have a feeling it might just be a later blackface modded to 6G6(A) circuit. That's cool in and of itself, though, if it's been done professionally.
