Transitional indeed. Originally it was in a black cabinet, but the box was starting to fall apart. I had Larry Rodgers build a new head and speaker cab, they are incredibly well built and accurate.

I was gonna say, that's in some time-capsule condition.

The original head cab has some beautiful battle scars from the last fifty years: ripped rolex, cigarette burns, heavily yellowed grill, dents. Structurally I didn't trust it; would have been fine for at home, but not gigging. I also did not want to alter the cab, there is a history there that I will never know. Just like with guitars, I can only imagine where this has been, how many stages/bars, what songs, or how many ridiculously named bands it has been a part of.

I'm curious, does anyone here use these as guitar amps? How do they sound? Compared to a standard bassman?

I would think the normal channel would be similar to a non-reverb, non-trem Twin.

I just tried one of the '59 bassman reissues and I really, really love the clean tone on guitar but I doubt there's enough headroom to keep up with a loud as fuck drummer. What's the alternative to this with maybe more headroom and reverb?

Here's an alternative that will make both you and the drummer better musicians... Buy the amp you want and have your drummer learn to play quieter. Trust me, it'll change both of your lives.

Hello all! Sorry to post on an old thread, didn't want to make a whole post about it. I'm considering buying a Fender Bassman 1959 5F6-A Clone for $650. I formed a band recently for my solo stuff, and I was looking for a good and reliable gigging amp. I attached some pictures the owner provided, It has 2x12 unknown Turkish brand speakers. The owner said he really liked the sound of them so he didn't replace them. I don't know how good the wiring is honestly, also read about the death cap and wonder If that's sorted. I guess I'll be heading out and trying it sometime this week anyway. To sum up, I'm asking whether this is a good deal or not?

At a quick glance it looks pretty good to me. The wiring is pretty tidy - I've seen way worse out there for sure! Lead dress is a little messy but I am a bit funny about tidy wires. The components used are reputable brands of good quality and it looks, by the photo's, to be nicely built. There should be no death cap in a clone as a grounded cable means there's no need for one (any I don't think anyone would install such a dangerous thing just for accuracy's-sake). As far as reliability an amp built like this is way easier to repair if something should go wrong than one built with modern techniques. Old Tung-Sol tubes are nice to see in there.

The speakers, well, they could be anything but if they sound good to your ears then let that be what drives your decision. It's an easy swap if you don't.

As for the price, I don't know what amps sell for usually in Turkey but resale on unnamed clones tends to be next to nothing so it's mostly down to if you think it's worth that much to you.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Well, a brand new Fender Bassman 59 LTD costs around 3000$ (because of our ridiculous taxes) in Turkey, so I thought this was a pretty good deal. I guess I'll go check it out and see if I like the speakers.
