THREAD REVIVAL!!
I probably should've posted these here, about two years ago... but... well... yeah...
I'm thinking maybe we should start a new thread, dedicated to "combo'd Bassman".
Hmmmmmmmm...
Anyway - here's what happened to my piggyback set
Two years, and I haven't looked back.

I have this 1966 Bassman, it used to be a ab165 circuit.
The guts was a mess when I bought it, so it went to a tech shortly after I purchased it.
Now the normal channel is different type of "Blackface Bassman" and the bass channel is a "tweed type Bassman"
This amp is a keeper for life, although I was tempted to trade it for a Toneking Imperial.
It came with new speakers in the cabinet, the original Jensen speakers were broke, and went to a speaker tech, I'm currently waiting for the Jensens.
I'm glad I didn't trade it.

Bassmen restoration! '68 'blackline' (dated '67) that I rebuilt and my gf's '69. Both are AB165/AA864 hybrids but done slightly different from each other.

My Bassman Bass Rig
Works out great for a old school bass vibe. Loud enough for band practice, keeps up with drums and Guits.

I miss my Bassman - I need to look into a new Weber Speaker for it as an X-mas present to myself this year...

interesting that your blackline does not have drip edge trim. was it removed, or could it be from just before they started doing that trim...?

Re: THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BASSMEN: Fender Bassman (and clones) O
well most of the skills in this case involved the guy i hired to make the cabinet! i just used my ears and fingers to restore a few capacitors, try a few different tubes and speakers, and keep it all under $1000. it's fun to swap the Blonde and BF chassis, and i'll often run 2 of the 3 speakers in different pairs with the blonde (an exact 8-ohm match), or all three with the BF (4-ohm amp sees 5.3 ohm speaker load). was scheming to make a rotary switch to select speaker combos... right now i just patch speaker wires while on standby and try not to mess up...
you can start tinkering with a good bassman head for like $350. take your time!

I was also thinking of getting an alnico speaker from Weber, but there would be a cost increase for me to go with that over a ceramic...
