Amp loudness?

My brother is coming over Saturday to play & maybe record.. While he’s here I’ll let him hear what I’m hearing & let you know..

I’m no Electronics Guru or any kind of Guru for that matter.. These are 2 totally different Amps & most likely it isn’t simple.. Unlike me.

I’ve come away with a lot more respect for 65 DRRI’s than I had before…

By tweaking the Volume on the Twin I can get them balanced.. Maybe it’s just the way it is..

I get curious & try to figure out why..

I appreciate any recommendations for reasonably priced Tubes that will help best replicate what was in vintage 60’s Twins..

We forgot Coachella is going on this weekend.. I live about a mile away.. The Traffic is crazy so we rescheduled for the middle of the week.

I record Stereo using the Twin set at 25 Watts & my 65 DRRI thru my Stereo Keeley ADT Pedal with equal volume levels going to Channel 3 & 4 (L&R) on my Focusrite Interface I have to turn the Twin’s volume to 8 to be the same as my DRRI with Volume set at 5…

Maybe it has more to do with the Science of Electronics?

Hmm, a lot going on here.

First step would be set the amps up so that they are as loud as each other, then see which one is louder.

Again...microphones, speakers, pot taper, etc all have influence over this.

I have a Fender Pro Tube Twin that’s about 15 years old. I’ve played it somewhere between 1500-2000 hours. I’m approximating..

Might not be related but that's a lot of hours... have you ever had the amp fully recapped?

I like these but they’re expensive. They’re a bit overpriced but I think they sound better than JJs even at normal clean levels.

wow - i was unaware that TAD's 6L6WGC-STR is considered a remake of my beloved GE 6L6GC's.
and some of the components look quite similar indeed. i still have a fair stash of GE's, but if these are actually
close to that sound, they'd be worth the price of admission, especially for an amateur tech like me who worries about blowing up a precious tube while experimenting...

i run the GE's in my Blonde Bassman as well as a 1968 Super Reverb, and they became my all-time favorite 6L6 type for Fenders. they've got a warm, harmonic throb in the low end, that isn't too loose, and a sweet articulation. like you say - even when run clean.

yeah i really like them. I have a pair in my '67 Bassman and I haven't changed them in like 10 years. But i don't use that amp very often. Too loud.
