Hiwatt cab question (se4123)
So, I finally picked up a 70's Hiwatt 4x12 that needs a lot of love but the one thing it does need is new grillcloth as it came to me with wire mesh (ala Mesa Boogie) instead. I've replaced the grillcloth on a few other cabs including Marshall and Orange but I can't seem to figure out how to attach the cloth on the Hiwatt? I can't find how the baffle comes out and there's not enough room in front of it for a frame to hold the cloth. It looks like the baffle is glued in maybe? There's also a lot of flat black paint in the way but I can't feel any screws through it anywhere that should be holding in the speaker baffle.

if i recall correctly, that frame around the inside of the baffle is attached by screws (to the baffle, under the cloth) and glued on but the frame is screwed the cabinet walls. I believe you want to unscrew the frame from the walls. Does that make sense?
You'll need to remove the speakers to get access with a drill.

Yes, thank you, I'm seeing those screws in the cleats now. It's just so different from every other 4x12 I've worked on and I knew it had to come out somehow!

Re: Hiwatt cab question (se4123)
The starting line:
Needs grill cloth, rear screws, nuts for speakers, wiring harness, sand down and refin and the extra jack socket plugged. I'd like to get the paint off the rear info plate and flatten out the damage done to it as well. According to the serial number, she's a 1971 cab.
I have a new badge and a quad of Reeves Purple speakers for it.

Fantastic. I’m happy to look at it without having to move it though.

I think it's unloaded weight is comparable to my Marshall JCM800 1960a loaded weight. I want it to look extra nice so I can justify it in my living room to my wonderful and patient spouse.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 5:12 pmFantastic. Also, it still has the OEM casters.

Lots! Still just sanding now and getting ready to stain the shell. I made a separate thread for the resurrection
