I didn't see that one, thanks. To be honest I don't really need to buy anything new, just pull one out of the pile :D

Looks great. Have you posted shots over on the Matamp Facebook group yet? They might be able to give you a bit more information. Hayden Minnett contributes regularly, but I think this would have been the Dave Green era?

Would Dr Balls consider a special one-off cab collaboration with Big Willy?
LOL i'll consider a lot but what does this mean? Make a matching speaker cab?
Two little guys that this can sit side by side with each other, underneath this, I reckon. One possibly larger/lower than the other.

I haven't. I don't use FB much apart from the marketplace. I might go join and ask anyway. Thanks

My local shop has one. I felt like it might be just a little overpriced for what it is, but that's how that shop rolls with everything it has.

dang, that's some hearty-sized iron, given the basic tube complement. or is it an illusion from the camera perspective?

Not at all, they are massive compared to the output/build. They look like what you'd put into a Deluxe Reverb or something 18-25w. Classic Matamp overspec.

The power transformer is likely over spec'd in an unnecessary way looking at the size. The output transformer looks reasonable in size to me, though. Keep in mind that single ended output transformers are usually larger that their push-pull brethren, watt for watt.

Yes. A single-ended OT has to tolerate DC flowing in one direction only, which requires them to be large.

This is because they must be gapped in order to prevent the DC current from magnetizing the core (that is: there must be an air gap between the winding and the core, which also makes the magnetic coupling less-efficient, which also means it needs to be larger)

In a Class AB push-pull amp, DC enters through the center tap, which means it is always flowing in both directions at once—this obviates the need for an air gap and allows the transformer to be much more efficient

No, someone offered me enough money to get it off me in the end. I had WAY too many amps anyway
