It sounds like fingers getting pulled over a cheese grater live. Yet the band sound pretty melodic. It’s almost too clever.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 12:23 pmIt's a bi-amp setup with an IVP with poweramp into one speaker and a Bassman into the other. Indeed. I've seen them a few times and, as an ensemble, it works perfectly. I'm all about that bass tone live thoughsal paradise wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 1:05 pmIt sounds like fingers getting pulled over a cheese grater live. Yet the band sound pretty melodic. It’s almost too clever.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Seriously.
When I saw them here at a small venue Steve and Bob both had massive DIY looking heads.

Yeah, those have their amps inside. Steve has his Bassman/IVP rig inside and Bob has a Traynor TS-50B and poweramp in his. I like the utilitarian look of them. I think when I spoke to Bob he said they built them themselves, along with the speaker cabs, in his back yard in the early 90smarqueemoon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 2:21 pmSeriously.

That makes perfect sense. I love the idea of all the extra effort for a utilitarian aesthetic.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 2:31 pmYeah, those have their amps inside. Holy crap, I remember seeing that advertised/discussed in Guitar Player Magazine back when magazines were still marginally relevant. I have not heard anything about them for like 15 years.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

The Wiggy always reminded me of Speedster amps. Yes, I am old.

I didn‘t have enough exposure to Shellac yet - but a friend has recommended them a few years ago when they played in Livorno or even somewhere closer.Jonesie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 7:22 amIf I recall, it's a black panel bassman with an Intersound IVP in front of it into a couple of PA speakers with tweeters.sal paradise wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 2:18 amBut the dirtiest guitar tone has to be Steve Albini’s guitar tone in Shellac. And I don’t know what amps he uses.
Seems like knowledge gap worth filling.
Also Dual Amping could become a thing for me too now that I seem to be the sole guitarist of my band again…
Anyhow: buying that amp felt soooo good after that shitload that is known as 2022.

The model name has already been mentioned (somehow) but as they differ quite a bit from each other - we need to get a little more specific - but you all were already quite close before the de-railing about Shellac started.

It's a Fender Bassman. The other amp of yours (probably the Bandmaster?) is an import version that runs on 110V, the Bassman is a 220V version.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 3:22 amCombo Amps would be what normal people consider practical. But there is another type of amp that you don‘t need to worry too much about (meaning in a financial way) and therefore is „practical“ - also I‘m in Europe - so there is one thing that really bugs me about one of my other amps that this one already has - which I also consider very practical!
Sorry, my word‘s might be a bit deceiving…

Or did you buy that 50 Watts Guyatone head that was kicking around kleinanzeigen lately?

It is a Bassman, yes. And also yes on the practical thing with using the „correct“ voltage (vs my Bandmaster‘s 110V) - but no on the color.Zork wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 1:00 pmMayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 12:06 pmThe model name has already been mentioned (somehow) but as they differ quite a bit from each other - we need to get a little more specific - but you all were already quite close before the de-railing about Shellac started. It's a Fender Bassman. While Dripedge Silverface is one of my two favorite (Fender style) amp colors - „normal“ silverface is slightly further down that list - so it logically must be the other (remaining?) favorite color (combo)?!
Not having to worry about too could also mean another thing, which is: it doesn‘t necessary need to be vintage or THE original brand - Guyatone did make great copies - but it‘s much easier than this…
