Re: Got an amp.
Doesn't hurt to replace it.
I'd replace anything that's off-spec or suspect in any way.
Value of the 4k7 isn't totally critical (and a bit high is probably better than a bit low in this particular case), but 5k6 would be the upper limit of a 20% tolerance part. I'd certainly replace it if it were mine

Re: Got an amp.
Well, i set the Variac at 12 volts..
The light didn't come on hahaha.. The tubes don't light up..
And no sound...
I get on the power tubes
Plate 44.5 volts
Screens Pin four 44.5 volts
Pin five negative 3.7 volts.
Ill take preamp readings soon...

Re: Got an amp.
No voltages on the resistors in the preamp section, but inputs shouldn't have right ?

Re: Got an amp.
you need more than 12v. bump it up to at least 60-75v

Works!
A little hum that should go away after a recap. Sounds pretty awesome too.

Being that it works, this makes this, one of my nicest scores. The pots date it to 1966.

Re: Got an amp.
$500 but it looked like shit when i picked it up, and I almost considered not getting it... I thought it was a newer model too, less rare.
It cleaned up pretty good, but I want to get some vinyl restorer though, to make the cab spit shiny.

Nice, glad it’s working for you!
Had a listen to some of these on YouTube- matt likes.
And yet again, another thread to inspire my foray into pedal/amp building!

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: Got an amp.
cool, congrats! I got myself a '66-67 Bassman head recently and converted it to AA864 specs but modded the bass channel to suite guitar better. It got me back into amps after 5-6 years of not doing anything amp-related.

Re: Got an amp.
Thanks, it worked out better than I had hoped for... Original tubes too. That's kinda neat, usually everything comes with JJs these days..
Now, I just have to order me some caps..
