What is the OSG amp family of choice?
Inspired by the threads in the effects section I was curious about what kind of amps we use and why?
"American" = Fender Style
"British" = Marshall, Vox etc.
"Modern" = Mesa, high gain metal amps etc.
You have 3 options so you can choose different styles for at home, small gig and big gig for example.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
Good poll and nice categories!
My ideal amp is an AC30 but my days of lugging one around are over - just too heavy. I found an AC15 sounds great but just doesn't have the volume or headroom I need.
I like big Fender combos almost as much and having not had a Twin for many years, I've settled on a Custom Vibrolux Reverb as a perfect combination of tone, size, weight etc. It's an early 2000's reissue modded to make the circuit essentially the same as a Vibroverb.
If Vox would copy the Tonemaster concept and make a super light AC30 (1x12 or 2 x12) I'd get one like a shot.

I use all kinds but mostly under 25 watters.
I had all kinds over the years.
Now own 1965 Danelectro DM25, Vox MV50 Clean and just ordered Wangs Mini 5 head.
I have high hopes for the Wangs as it's tube rectified. Being smaller and more serviceable than the Dan will more likely give me what I need on the cheap.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
I used to use an Orange OR120 into an old Ampeg 8x10 for my guitar but my tastes have shifted since my back and ears adjusted to being older I've been through hundreds of amps over the years and have always gravitated towards simpler amps...too many knobs confuses me and I'm usually most comfortable with Volume, Bass & Treble. I am a big fan of a Baxandall stack but they are, sadly, not often used in amp design.
As for now? These days I exclusively use an old '65 VibroChamp at home (5 or 6 watts I believe) and even that's often too loud. I've yet to find a small amp that sounds as sweet as this thing does, and it records very, very well.
With my band I use a '67 Bassman into an old 80s Marshall 1966A cab. Why? Well, because it sounds fucking stellar.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
Fender heads with various cabs is my regular setup.
I mostly play my Fender Supersonic for which I have 3 matching (Blonde/Oxblood) cabs.
Small gigs: either 1x15 or 2x12 cab
Bigger gigs and rehearsals: 1x15 cab on top of 2x12
Big stages if I have to share with various bands (and I provide) it‘s 4x12
My second Fender Head is a Vintage Bandmaster with a 2x15 (diagonal alignment) Bassman cab.
I want to play it live sometimes soon.
Technically speaking a half stack is 4x12 and a full stack is 2x 4x12 right? So this classic terminology might not be appropriate for my setup. Anyhow, my „full“ stack click means using my two cabs (2x12 + 1x15). It‘s bigger as my single 4x12.

British head, small cab is my weapon of choice these days. I currently have a Victory RK50 (Plexi-ish thing) and just bought a Mojotone Neo 1x12 with a Creamback in it. I anticipate this will serve all my needs without killing my back.

Tiny terror combo at home, r15t with 2/12 live.
I still have 2 old fenders, a 600 and bandmaster in a 1/12 house, but I rarely, if ever touch them.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
well my main amps are all fender or fender based.
i run a 72 bassman halfstack and a 79 fender twin in the practice space but at home, i use a traynor guitar mate which is kinda like a deluxe.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
Love them all. Haven’t owned a fender amp but want to.
I definitely fall in the British category: Marshall/Laney/Vox
My Dual Rec days were kinda fun though. That said, I got on a lot better with a JCM2000.
Practice wise, pretty much always use the gear they have. I still miss this place in Croydon that had the owners whole amp collection just knocking about. joyous tone using this.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
66 Bassman into a Sound City 4x10
78 DR-504 into a Hiwatt 4x12
I’ve played some variation of these since the 90s (cycling through basically all of the black and silver Fender heads and quite a few MusicMan variants on the “American” side and running an OR-80 for a few years in the “British” slot). I keep telling myself I’ll buy one of those Rex-loaded Princetons or a Bad Cat combo because these amps are both just so so loud, but that has yet to happen…

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
I currently own a Marshall Class 5 (“small British combo”), but I have owned several iterations of vintage and reissue Fenders (lots of Fenders), Voxes, and Marshalls. If you are truly asking what I prefer, it’s actually hard to say. I love brownface Fenders for surf guitar vibes, Voxes for early Beatles vibes, and Marshalls for Hendrix vibes. If I could pick one at any price point, I think I would probably go with a blonde/brownface Showman if I was being impractical and a brownface Vibrolux if I was being practical, but I would be extremely tempted to choose a black flag JTM100.

Re: What is the OSG amp family of choice?
There's the "AC30VR" but I don't know if it's any good. There are mixed reviews online. But maybe you want to have a closer look at it? It's kind of the same idea.
There are only 20 options in a poll. I think we can refer as a half stack as one head plus one cab and a full stack as one head plus two cabs here.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 6:35 amTechnically speaking a half stack is 4x12 and a full stack is 2x 4x12 right? Well, I thought it's not so much about preferences but about what we actually use in our current situation.blacktiger wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 11:22 amIf you are truly asking what I prefer, it’s actually hard to say.

This wasn’t one of the options, but I’m probably an outlier in this category. For me, I’m completely content with my ‘66 Princeton Reverb. I’ve actually sold all my other amps and use my PR exclusively.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Fender Blackface amps.
In my stable and among my favorites are a Weber Princeton Reverb style amp that runs 6Ls's. instead of 6V6's,and puts out around 30 watts. Great amp. And a Fender Custom 68 which is a Blackface style Deluxe Reverb. Another great amp.

Once again, I fall right in line with the majority of respondents.
