Re: Fender Tone Master Princeton Reverb
if there was a version with a 12" speaker, I'd be all over it. I've never gotten into the sound of 10 inch speakers.

I don’t get it. The real deal is adequately portable to me.

Yeah, I have something of a hard time wrapping my mind around this one.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:41 amI don’t get it. The real deal is adequately portable to me.
But it seems to be designed to be a good recording amp, you have the attenuation capabilities and a direct out, so you can run it into a recording console or mixer very easily.
And then you have an amp you can gig with, also. I think it looks pretty cool, actually.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Attenuation and the digital outs seem to be the primary features in my eyes.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:41 amI don’t get it. The real deal is adequately portable to me.

I don't think it has digital outs, does it? I think it's just analog.Lost In Autumn wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:12 amAttenuation and the digital outs seem to be the primary features in my eyes.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:41 amI don’t get it. The real deal is adequately portable to me.
I've been wondering, because it has USB for firmware updates, but not for sending to a computer that I'm aware of, which seems kind of shortsighted.

For £800 you could get a whole of a lot of great amp modelling software to record with.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:46 amYeah, I have something of a hard time wrapping my mind around this one.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:41 amI don’t get it. And you could get a 2nd hand Princeton for that much for gigs. Although you can’t go direct out to the desk.
But yeah, I could lug a Princeton valve amp around on the tube easy enough. This seems a weirdly expensive, unnecessary version to me. That said, I can see it selling well in shops “sounds just like valve, it’s cheaper & it’ll never need servicing”
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I guess I missed that. I imagine if it did have them, it would be a draw against the Deluxe?Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:14 amI don't think it has digital outs, does it? You can be sure as shit there'll be a load of hardware issues 10-15 years down the line and no backup from Fender (and parts will be obsolete) though. At least a tube amp can, theoretically, be kept going forever.

Very informative video.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:45 amWatch this... this person has some concerns about the ToneMaster series longevity.
Funny how so much technology (an actual quad core cpu!) is required to emulate such comparatively simple technology. And this is all done, as I understand it, because the labor would cost too much to make em „like they used to“.
I guess it’s also not really in the interest of most companies to make products that could, with some servicing every few decades, continue working for many generations.

Thanks Larry for posting that YT… Good Points.
The Planned Obsolescence has been one of the big questions & concerns beyond the Sound.
Are they like Apple Computers & obsolete within 6-7 years or so.. And Parts are unavailable.. Even if they are available the Parts & Labor cost will be significant.. The question becomes do I buy a new Amp & just throw this one away????

This video lays out exactly my concerns with these I expressed. I can see a lot of them ending up as doorstops in a decade.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:45 amWatch this... this person has some concerns about the ToneMaster series longevity.

Re: Fender Tone Master Princeton Reverb
Why, do you think, is this point uniquely valid in context of Tone Masters? I don't recall hearing anyone bring up this topic regarding helix, Axe-Fx or Kemper.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:35 pmThis video lays out exactly my concerns with these I expressed. Because they're uniquely placed, and marketed, as a 1-for-1 alternative to their tube equivalent. Kempers/Helix/etc are very different beasts and are marketed very differently.stilwel wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:17 amWhy, do you think, is this point uniquely valid in context of Tone Masters? On that note, he brings up the great point of shock damage to the PCBs and computer parts due to it being a combo.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 7:30 am

Kempers and AxeFX typically get toured in rack cases with tons of foam that would cushion shocks. This is a combo amp that would get thrown in the back of a van and transmit every little bump much more effectively.
I never thought about it, but that's a great way to damage computer parts.
Even if you're using it in the studio, a combo is gonna vibrate the whole cabinet every time you use it (unless running a DI out with the speaker muted), which will lead to mechanical failure of parts faster than a Kemper or AxeFX sitting in a rack.
