I bought an old friend back. And a new project begins

Post by Fiddy » Sun Jul 31, 2022 7:03 pm

Some of the older members might remember this amp...err cab/speaker..

Saw a Champ posted, bought it, and turns out its the cab and 3.2 ohm Weber speaker i bought for my vibrochamp build back around 2009...

Someone rebuilt the amp in a real Fender Chassis. Mine was a Mojotone chassis, which by the way is a little crappier quality...

Im rebuilding it back.. :w00t:

Oh wow, what a return of an old friend! Congratulations.

The Silverface and baby blue looks great together IMHO
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

That's gotta be a weird awesome feeling. My wife recently referred to my amps as "friends of mine", pointing out we've been through a lot together. Enjoy getting to know it again and having fun with the rebuild!

I remember this amp! again the color selection was hot, this was around the same time I did that Orange JTM 45 clone build. That thing is still floating around Baltimore somewhere and it's loud as sin.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Pano, did you wire it yourself?

So, it's been a few years since I've had a look at a datasheet...

With the 3.2 ohm speaker..

I just looked up the 6L6 datasheet. So, if using a 315-0-315 PT, Rated at 150 mA, should be able to use a 4k primary into 4ohm SE output transformer rated at 15 watts, correct?

Just ordered Edcor iron. PT and OT.

10 watt, single ended 5k @ 4 ohms.

This will be a slow build. Edcor has a 5 week lead time. I have some random parts at home. Im going to reuse as many parts as possible. Some are actually original to the original build.

Not going for pretty inside this time. As tidy as possible but not overboard as my first time. Im more interested in getting solid transformers this time.

Partially but then I had to have someone else finish it up because i don't trust myself at all.

So, the new OT won't clear the speaker..

I'm removing the cap can and moving the OT very close to the rectifier.

This is take 3... :fp:

Pain in the ass. Those nylon nuts are hard to tighten. Tge transformers were already wired too.
