NAD! For the office- Gallien-Krueger 250ML!

Post by SignoftheDragon » Fri Jul 22, 2022 2:38 pm

First amp I've bought in over a decade... this one will sit on a shelf in my new office, and sing with every 12-string that passes through.
(I was recently promoted to Supreme Overlord at my job when the old boss/founder retired.)

Clues:

'80s

Big sound, little box.

Combo with 2 stereo speakers.

Enough power to run a half-stack extension cab if I wanna.

Care to guess?

Clues too good?

Taste that predictable?

I'll try to be more cryptic in future 'guessing game' posts. (This is the 2nd one that has been 1-shot...)

ANyway.... It's a cool little amp, and came with a custom-fit Anvil case for travelling!

Pretty much flawless condition- just the slightly rusty screws that all GKs seem to have.

I'm thrilled with it as an office-shelf amp, and glad to have the Roland Cube back at home where it can generate feedback like it's supposed to.

I may grab a pedal or two to try out if the chorus and echo buttons don't thrill me enough. I guess we'll see!

The case is adorable. Also congratulations on the promotion.

Gotta love a small amp that can power a big cab. And a small stereo box on top of that? Nice score!

True that - I guess I've always had a soft spot for GK, and little amps in general.

I used to use a MLS head before it shorted out for good (during a gig, dammit!) that I loved dearly until The Great Betrayal. I ran it stereo through 2 2x12 cabinets, and used the 80s metal channel for superNoise sections on top of my other distortions. Stereo FX loop, TONS of powah... that little guy had it all. Like this:

I guess that's the nostalgia that got me to pick this new one up.

For my main stage amp I still use a Marshall Valvestate single-rack-space power amp that I bought to replace the GK head. It sounds great and everything... but I miss all those knobs to twiddle & dial it in just right on stage, and that distortion channel for the noisy bits is still sorely missed. I haven't found a pedal with that magic, fizzy, fuzzy, smooth wall of noise to replace it yet. The search continues...
