Dean Markley and Acoustic both did non-black (tan and brown) tolex.

Close with the Yamaha (by country at least).

The dude messaged and asked if I could swing by tonight instead so here you go, time to get my Billy Bragg on...

1982 Roland Cube 60 Bass and a 1983 Cube 40

Image

The Bass 60 is pretty beat-up but fully functional bar a scratchy volume pot. 40 is clean and seems okay electronically but need to do a thorough test tomorrow when I'm back from work. It's well into the +30°C/90°F inside our house at the moment so I'm not in the mood for fucking about with amps :D

I expect both will need some caps changing to be up to full health.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Nice, i have the silver 60 watt version. i found it in the trash a few years back and use it for bass.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Sound's like the perfect score! Free is the best price.

I'd quite like to get one of the chorus models as I'm sure that sounds fantastic considering Roland are the kings of 80's Chorus. The volume difference between the clean and overdrive channel is wild and more extreme than I remember (well, I don't think I ever really used the clean channel when I was 15/16 years old to be honest, so take that memory with a generous pinch of salt!).

The dude had two more 40's in Orange but wasn't up for selling either. Oh well.

Had a chance to test this morning before it gets stinking hot (it's gonna pass 100°F here today for the first time ever). Both work perfectly. The 40 is crazy bright, as I remembered, but that's what's the Treble control is for I guess. I took the opportunity to put it through a Marshall 1x12 that's in the same room...sounded infinitely better so I might grab a little Eminence 10" to replace the aluminium-capped stock speaker to reign in the bite a touch...even with my damaged hearing it's a bit too cutting so god help anyone else in a room with it.

Pretty reasonable overdrive too if you like that kinda 70s/80s punk vibe (which I do). Very happy with it.

The bass amp is also pretty solid, tone-wise. Mids cranked and bass & treble to the room gets that classic clang I want out of a bass sound. It sounds great with the volume on 10 and on the higher strings with a solid analog SS grind to it, but farts-out on the low notes. No disaster, I'll just feed it a Rat.

I paid £200 for the pair which, considering some people are asking wild £300+ prices online at the moment, is a good deal I think. Not as good as free, but still pretty solid.

Nice!

I've got an orange Cube 20 that I use for late night practice in the living room, not too shabby for clean stuff, and sounds pretty damn good with a boost in front of it. I seem to remember the reverb being pretty decent as well. I've also found mine to be *insanely* bright so I'm very careful with the treble and tone knobs on the guitar. If you do that, there are some warm and yazzy tones to be found in these little guys.

Enjoy that thing!

I think you need a 3rd Roland Mr Somerset. There’s a Roland Bolt 60 in good condition not far from you for £50 it’s on FB. Interesting amp it SS preamp and 6L6 power amp I used to have one.

Oooh, for £50 that's tempting as hell. Do you have a link?
