I’m looking at old Ampeg combos thanks to the other thread, but my 2 amps right now are a DR504 and a 66 Bassman. I may have other amps but these 2 will always be my #1 and #2…
My 2 primary amps right now are a '66 Bassman and a jtm45 but I'm drooling over the thoughts pf a dr504!
Lifers…

If I could add an OR-80 and a JCM-800 (or JMP) that’d be ideal but I kinda feel like that’s just being greedy at this point…

Now I'm thinking of selling a few amps to make that Hiwatt happen...

What's the story with that cab? Stripped and dyed? 4x10?

so one thing i kinda always miss when i play a smaller amp is that feeling that while you CAN get more out of it at a lower volume..... i just kinda love knowing that if i wanted, i could just turn up the volume on my bigger amps and it can keep going.

What I prefer about bigger amps over smaller ones is that fidelity and authority in the low end. It's just so clear and huge!

77 or 79 (I can’t remember right now) SE4123, loaded with a quad of 1982 G12T-75s. Original grille cloth, stripped and painted green by the previous owner.

Sometimes run it into a Morgan 212 fitted with WGS Reapers, and the Bassman is typically paired with a Sound City L410H.

Found an old pic, circa 2016… I was running this alongside a Sound City Bass 150 > Peavey bass 4x12 cab…

It was basically the daddy rig to what I currently run… pants-flappingly aggressive cleans, commanding articulation. Overkill in the best possible way…

Huh, kinda odd. I have a green Orange cab that was a special order for a band that I'm slowly rebuilding that at least came with 2 G12T-75's. The grillcloth was spray painted black but I have replacement cane to sort that out. Oddly, it's the green Orange cab that's kinda pushing me towards wanting a Hiwatt so badly.

I love the Sound of my Twin as long as I don’t have to haul it… In that case I take my 65 DRRI or 65 PRRI….

This!

Although I love my homemade 6G3 Deluxe at home, it doesn't work for me when I play with others. It's not about volume, it's about fidelity for me.

My favorite speaker cab is a tone-ring 1x15'' with a JBL D130. That sounds huge and balanced.

Not quite sure where to post any of this.

I nearly posted the Matamp in the small amp thread, because people were already posting amps over 10 watts and this will go down to 2 or 3 watts. Then I got the JCA on the right, which technically is a bassman derivative, being a clone of a Soldano Lucky 13. And I thought about resurrecting the stereo thread (and might yet, after I've had more of a play).

But here we are. What I love about medium/large amps is more or less what everyone else has said. Not necessary the loudness, but the volume and girth of the sound. And the dynamics. I want an amp that can whisper louder than the drummer can play.

My Valvestorm (Metro-spec Heyboer iron set) jtm45 / JCM800 1960a, stripped, stained and loaded with Scumback m75's. It's that "just right" amount of amp, perfectly balanced between power, clarity and being able to turn it up without killing everybody.
