New Broken Amp Day
It's the green lit one at the top of the heap. I'm a big fan of H/Hs and I only just recently found out that they made an IC-100 with a tremolo circuit; as luck would have it, one came up kind of locally at the kind of price that make these the best buy in used amps. Was able to do an after work meet-up in a small town about 10 miles away, rather than the 30 or so miles I'd have had to drive, so that was a plus.
Trouble is the damn thing doesn't work. As is so often the case, switching it on results in the familiar white noise of worn caps or whatever it is, punctuated by intermittent eardrum-bothering, firework-like pops. The pared-down channel blends guitar with the noise, but the tremolo channel - my main reason for buying it - does nothing.
Oh well, at least it was on the cheap side, though clearly not as cheap as it should have been given the state it's in. Hopefully one of my electronically savvy friends will get it working good, otherwise it'll be a costly visit to an amp tech whenever I can justify the additional cost. Or maybe another one that I can try before I buy will come up at an attractive price.

Bummer.
But damn, buy more.
Before I buy them all myself.
Ps: I just sold one of my IC100 combos and a VS Musician head last week.

It's the heads that I really prize above the combos. They take up relatively little space and stack neatly, almost like 19" rack units. My ideal set-up would be a pair of 1x10 cabinets to run two as a stereo or wet/dry rig. Or a VS Musician/IC-100 pairing for a dirty/clean rig. Or both at once. (Or should that be all four at once?) The possibilities really are endless.

Alas, if only I could find one in the States. My inner Stuart Adamson fan requires I at least try one once.

Totally. We can put together a transatlantic friendship exchange of our old Peavey amps for an equivalent tonnage of HH amps.stevejamsecono wrote: ↑Thu Nov 11, 2021 3:53 pmAlas, if only I could find one in the States. My inner Stuart Adamson fan requires I at least try one once.

Seriously though. Such a gloriously chunky sound. I'm pretty sure it was the less hip VS Musicians too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9udxbvHiqGw

Re: New Broken Amp Day
Aaaaah, I remember the days of Rob (Idiotbear) & another forumite whose name slips my mind, picking these heads up for fuck all!
I almost took a bit myself, frequently seeing them on free-ads, but never did.

Re: New Broken Amp Day
i think between pat and ulric, that's like 50% of remaining HH amps.

Re: New Broken Amp Day
The woman I bought it from had quite a few others for sale, including a bass combo (!) Was I tempted to buy the lot at her pretty reasonable prices? Of course I was!s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 11:21 ami think between pat and ulric, that's like 50% of remaining HH amps.
Still quite a few H/Hs, WEMs, and Carlsboros out there in the wild, I think, and many of them a steal....though I've noticed the trend towards "It's old, so it must be valuable" on the increase recently.

Re: New Broken Amp Day
yeah. i've picked up a few wems and carlsboros over the years, while they're not my thing, i'm always shocked how little you can get them for. for a while, this was my "bedroom amp" (technically true since my bedroom and living room are the same room) wem dominator with vintage celestion greenback. got it for £110 and got a rodan CD thrown in with it.UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 4:06 amThe woman I bought it from had quite a few others for sale, including a bass combo (!) Re: New Broken Amp Day
the dominators always sound half way between a marshall jmp and a hiwatt to me. like they've usually got the headroom of a hiwatt but voiced more like a jmp.
