60s AC10 Clone

Post by horseblanket » Sat Oct 23, 2021 9:00 am

Took a gamble on Reverb by buying a clone from an unknown seller/builder and it really paid off. This things absolutely rips. The stories about EF86 reliability have always turned me away from trying them but I am very happy I took the risk on this amp. I really love it. 10 watts is still loud as hell.

You can sub the EF86 for an E80F if you can’t find a quiet EF86. I used to have a ‘60s AC10. Wish I still did. They are great little amps.

That's lovely! What's the rest of the amp look like? Or did you buy just the electronics to make your own cabinet?

Just bought the chassis and am working on the cab situation now. I am a simpleton so the aesthetics will not be Voxy, but more like one of those fancy and wildly expensive Magic Amps Crossroads models.

I have been hearing that swapping the input resistors from 220 to 68k will liven this circuit up in a good way. I am considering it because as of now it is a little on the dark side - which is mostly fine because I am using Jazzmasters and Teles. Because of the darker tone I don't really adjust the cut knob at all. I am curious if the change will give the cut range a little more usefulness. However, I am scared of messing with it because it sounds so damn good as is.
