Your favourite amp repair youtube channels

Post by Sauerkraut » Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:58 am

During the pandemic's various lockdowns, I dipped my toes into amp repairing and modifying, to the betterment (surprisingly) of my black Tremolux. Most of the information I needed I got from that Rob Robinette website, which is especially useful for working on AB763 circuits. But I also learnt a lot from Uncle Doug's Youtube channel, and now a good amp repair video has become my new go-to comfort watch.

What are your favourite youtube amp repair channels?

Three that I really enjoy:

the aforementioned Uncle Doug
great "newcomer" Fazio Electric
D-Lab

Uncle Doug, Fazio Electric, and D-Lab are all in my rotation, for sure. I recently found a series that helped me repair an old Kustom head, so DeadKoby's stuff has been a great watch too.

Something so relaxing about these, rather than some preppy young dude shoving the latest buzzworthy gear in my face with some smug smirk. Why are all those thumbnails the same? Good call on sharing 'em, not just good entertainment, but educational, for better or worse.

My amp tech advised Uncle Doug to me. I used to read a lot of stuff from Rob Robinette.
Like you said, Uncle Doug is really nice to watch. I like how he explains what he's doing and why.
He's a nice down to earth guy that just seams to love what he's doing. :)

Fazio is great. Such a great laid-back vibe, easy to follow and a very calming voice.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

i used to like the guitarologist because he was also into old japanese guitars, but the second he started going all info wars, i kinda had to bow out.

I am so bothered by Uncle Doug’s shooting style that I actually can’t watch it. I know I am missing out big time.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Some nice repairs here too. That Deluxe Reverb comparison is clipping so much it’s pretty much useless though.

Same. I hadn't watched any of his videos in a long time and then turned one on during the pandemic and was definitely taken aback. I almost thought his channel had been hacked by a look alike with the same voice or something.

i stopped watching him around the time he was starting beef with rob chapman...... did he get worse during the pandemic?

edit. the first video i found of him was a video of a news report where he's arguing about mask mandates in his daughter's school and the news report mentions he planned on pulling a gun on the super intendant

I was a casual viewer, so I didn't tune in much or hear of rob chapman beefs. I just watched some tear down stuff mostly. I did tune in once last fall and it was full blown Q stuff. Checked out a couple of other recent videos, decided he'd lost his mind and went back.

I like the videos from Psionic Audio.
His Vox style amp that he’s building - and selling - looks awesome. The design processes behind it is really interesting. And he seems to know his way around any brand and model.

Here’s one of his videos

Daaamn. I must have missed that or only watched older videos. I watched a Sovtek repair and a Boogie repair and found myself getting into his stuff. I've got a couple of more recent ones in my watch later but they're in the bin now.

Dodged a bullet for my algorithm there...

lol the Guitologist posted a whiny-ass post on YouTube the other day wondering why his viewer counts are down and saying "that he can't keep making this kind of content if no one will watch it"

And then like everyone in the comments was saying "well, you started posting insane political shit that no one wants to hear on a guitar channel..."

I'm sure he's developing some conspiracy theory about why he's being blocked from the algorithm by shady liberals instead of realizing the obvious...
